  • Patent number: 4947627
Abstract: A recipient having an axially upwardly open neck formed with at least one radially projecting neck thread is capped by fitting a circumferentially thermally shrinkable sleeve around a plug, fitting the plug into the open neck to block same, fitting the sleeve also around the neck over the neck thread, and heating the sleeve and thermally shrinking it circumferentially into tight engagement with the plug and with the neck and neck thread. The sleeve can be first fitted around the plug and then shrunk over the plug, after which the plug and sleeve are fitted together to the recipient, whereupon the sleeve is shrunk over the neck. Alternately the plug is fitted to the neck, then at the same time the sleeve is fitted around the plug and around the neck, and then the sleeve is heated to shrink it onto the plug and neck at the same time.

  • Patent number: 4497156
Abstract: In order to envelop the necks of a series of continuously moving bottles with decorative or informative tubular attachments, an elongate tube of heat-shrinkable plastic material is flattened first in one longitudinal plane and then in another longitudinal plane, perpendicular to the former, to produce a sheath with two substantially flat sides bearing the traces of a first pair of creases while being bounded by a second pair of creases. The longitudinally advancing sheath is cut into clippings of predetermined length that are advanced codirectionally therewith but at higher speed along a sloping guidepath in which the existing creases are caused to converge while the original creases reappear as the two sides are progressively spread apart.

  • Patent number: 4445310
Abstract: A process and an installation for supplying fragile caps to a closure machine which operates at a high rate, wherein caps are manufactured in situ in a plurality of cells which operate in a parallel mode, with the caps then supplied to the closure machine by a single conveyor which preserves the orientation of the caps. Detectors disposed on inclined intermediate channels control the output rate of the cells and the conveyor to ensure the machine is supplied with caps at all times, even when a cell is stopped for maintenance.

  • Patent number: 4231479
Abstract: Tear-off closure caps shaped for distribution at high speed in channels, the caps each comprising two tear-off tongue portions disposed in a flat V-shape in the plane of the rim portion, at the bottom of its skirt portion. The tongue portions have the outer ends slightly bent upwardly, the bends obliging the rim portion of each cap to become engaged under the tongue portions of the cap which precedes it in a distribution channel. The distribution channel includes grooves in the opposed side walls which receive and guide the outer edges of the tongue portions, the outer edges being slightly divergent relative to each other toward their outer ends.

  • Patent number: 4171736
Abstract: A closure cap for bottles which is stamped from a blank and has a pair of tear assisting tabs thereon especially adapted for high speed bottling equipment and designed so as not to jam in the equipment. The tabs in the transport position form a V-configuration on their inner edges and their outer lateral edges are in parallel planes spaced apart a distance equal to the diameter of the cap; such construction permitting a following cap to enter between the tabs without riding up on the preceding cap.
