Abstract: A process for the antimicrobial treatment of fiber materials, comprising applying to the fiber material an inclusion complex of a fiber-reactive cyclodextrin derivative with an antimicrobial agent selected from the group consisting of (a) halogeno-o-hydroxydiphenyl compounds or non-halogenated hydroxydiphenyl ether compounds; (b) phenol derivatives; (c) benzyl alcohols; (d) chlorohexidine and derivatives thereof; (e) C12-14alkybetaines and C8–C18fatty acid amidoaklylbetaines; (f) amphoteric surfactants; (g) trihalocarbanilides; (h) quaternary and polyquaternary compounds; and (i) thiazole compounds.

Abstract: Disclosed is sun screen formulation, comprising (a) a micronised organic UV absorber, and (b) a cosmetically acceptable carrier, wherein the micronised organic UV absorber is present in the oil phase of the formulation. The sunscreen composition of the invention provides excellent protection of the human skin against the damaging effects of sunlight, while permitting safe tanning of the skin.

Abstract: The present invention provides, as a first aspect, a sun protection agent, which is especially suitable for use in pharmaceutical or cosmetic applications, comprising a) a micronized organic UV absorber; and one, or preferably both of; b) an oil-soluble, non-micronized UV absorber and/or an inorganic micropigment; and c) a polymeric hollow sphere additive and/or a polymer selected from xanthan and/or polyvinylpyrrolidone. The present invention also provides a sunscreen composition comprising A) 0.1 to 15%, preferably 0.5 to 10% by weight, based on the total composition of a sun screen agent according to the present invention; and B) a cosmetically acceptable carrier.

Abstract: The invention discloses multifunctional textile auxiliary formulations comprising (a) 10 to 60% by weight of one or more than one nonionic surfactant of formula (1), (b) 10 to 60% by weight of the reaction product of one or more than one nonionic surfactant of formula (2) and of an ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic or carboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof, (c) 4 to 20% by weight of a hydrotropic agent, (d) 0 to 20% by weight of a nonionic surfactant of formula (3), (e) 0 to 8% by weight of a magnesium salt of an organic carboxylic acid, (f) 0 to 30% by weight of a chelating agent or sequestrant, (g) 0 to 10% by weight of a diol or polyol, and (h) 0 to 60% of water, with the proviso that the textile auxiliary formulations must contain one of components (e) to (g). The novel textile auxiliary formulations are distinguished by their low foaming properties, their storage-stability, their peroxide-stabilizing properties, their good emulsifiability and their good rewettability.

Abstract: The present invention provides a microstructured cosmetic composition comprising:A) a cosmetically acceptable oil phase which is dispersed in;B) an aqueous phase comprising 0.05 to 3.0, preferably 0.2 to 1.0% by weight, based on the weight of the total composition, of a .beta.-1,3-glucan having a mean molecular weight within the range of from 1.times.10.sup.6 to 12.times.10.sup.6, preferably from 2.times.10.sup.6 to 10.times.10.sup.6 ;the oil phase A) in the microstructured cosmetic composition having a mean particle size within the range of from 0.05 to 1000 microns.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of producing a composition, suitable for use in pharmaceutical or cosmetic compositions, comprising a micronised insoluble organic UV absorber, which method comprises grinding the insoluble organic UV absorber, in coarse particle form, in a grinding apparatus, in the presence of 0.1 to 30% by weight of an alkyl polyglucoside having the formula C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O(C.sub.6 H.sub.10 O.sub.5).sub.x H, in which n is an integer ranging from 8 to 16 and x is the mean polymerization level of the glucoside moiety (C.sub.6 H.sub.10 O.sub.5) and ranges from 1.4 to 1.6, or an ester thereof.

Abstract: Described are mercerization wetting agent compositions comprising(a) a compound of the formula ##STR1## (b) a phosphoric ester of the formula ##STR2## The mercerization wetting agent compositions of the invention are notable for good wetting power in a mercerizing bath.

Abstract: There is disclosed an aqueous formulation comprising(a) a bleach stabilising component,(b) a salt of an organic carboxylic acid and(c) a preservative.The novel formulation is suitable for use as bleaching liquor for cellulosic fibre materials and is distinguished by a superior stabilising action, a very good capacity for binding heavy metal ions, a good inhibition of crystallisation, and the treated fibre materials have very good rewettability. A significant advantage of the novel formulation is its good biodegradability.

Abstract: Mercerization wetting compositions comprising a compound of the formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is hydroxyl or --SO.sub.3 M,R.sub.2 is C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 alkyl,M is an alkali metal,n is 0 or 1, andm is from 2 to 6 are described. The mercerization wetting compositions of the invention are high-wetting and low-foaming. Moreover, the compounds are readily biodegradable.

Abstract: An aqueous, storable wetting agent which is low-foaming in application and contains a nonionic surfactant selected from the group of the partially end group blocked alkoxylated fatty alcohols is described, which contains(a) 10 to 80% by weight of a nonionic surfactant of the general formula ##STR1## in which R is an aliphatic radical of at least 8 carbon atoms, R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -to C.sub.8 alkyl, a cycloaliphatic radical of at least 5 carbons atoms, phenyl(lower)alkyl or styryl, "alkylene" is an alkylene radical of 2 to 4 carbon atoms and p is a number from 2 to 24 and(b) 1 to 10% by weight of a hydrotropic agent.The novel wetting agent is used in the treatment of textiles, in particular in the pre-treatment.

Abstract: Aqueous, hard water-resistant wetting agent and detergent compositions comprising (a) a mixture of monomeric and oligomeric phosphoric acid esters, (b) a water-soluble or water-dispersible copolymer, (c) a nonionic surfactant, (d) an alkali metal hydroxide and optionally (e) an antifoam. These compositions can be used as wetting agents and detergents in textile pretreatment.

Abstract: Aqueous textile assistants of high storage stability and hard water resistance comprising at least (a) a partial phosphoric ester, (b) a nonionic surfactant, (c) an anionic surfactant and (d) an alkali metal hydroxide. They can be used for wetting and deaerating fibre materials.
