  • Patent number: 4945938
Abstract: A large diameter reel having a large diameter hollow drum with a flange at each end about which a flexible elongate member, such as coil tubing, electrical conductor cable, or the like, may be wound, the reel having no shaft, but instead, having a large central opening extending therethrough, and having a gear located in the opening or on at least one or both of the reel's flanges. A carrier, such as a skid, trailer or semi-trailer, is provided with rollers for supporting the reel upon edge and with a driving gear meshable with the reel gear for rotating the reel. The trailer or semi-trailer may be provided with a hole in the bed thereof to accommodate the reel in an inset position to permit such vehicles with a reel thereon to freely pass beneath highway overpasses, and other overhangs. Methods of supporting such reels on such carriers are also provided.

  • Patent number: 4574883
Abstract: A tool stopping device for use in well flow conductors for stopping well tools moving therethrough, these devices being located at desired checkpoints, their arrival thereat indicating the progress of the tools in the flow conductor, each device having lugs movable between an inner, tool stopping position and an outer position in which they do not obstruct the bore of the device, each device also having a mechanism remotely actuable from the surface for moving the lugs between their outer and inner positions, whereby tools may be stopped by the lugs when in their inner position, after which the lugs may be moved to their outer position to free the tools for movement beyond the device. In some forms of the devices, the lugs may stop tools in position where they are to be locked in place. In another form, the tools are stopped by a shoulder in the device and the lugs are then contracted to anchor the tool in engagement with that shoulder.

  • Patent number: 4465132
Abstract: A tool stopping device for use in a well flow conductor having a preferably full open bore and an abrupt stop shoulder surrounding the bore and engageable by corresponding stop shoulders of spring biased keys carried on a well tool for stopping the well tool as it moves through the flow conductor to indicate the tool's arrival at the device, the device having lugs remotely actuable from the surface for releasing the keys from engagement with the stop shoulder in the device for movement of the well tool therebeyond. One form of the device is suitable for stopping tools entering from one direction only. Another form of the device is suitable for stopping tools both moving into and out of a well. Either or both types of devices may be used in any quantity to provide known checkpoints in a well system for monitoring the progress of well tools moving therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4069865
Abstract: A well bottom hole fluid pressure measuring structure including external to internal pressure transducer fluid passage communicating structure with pressure balancing on engaged probe members to prevent undesired pressure lift separation of one probe section from another. A locking mandrel, landing nipple and probe structure is provided with positioning of the probe to the lock set state holding the mandrel in a locked state such that fluid pressure differential across the mandrel cannot unlock the probe from the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4023620
Abstract: A well tubing hanger for suspending a pressure bomb and/or temperature recording device, or other equipment in the tubing from a tubing no-go nipple, through a test period. It is a bomb hanger such that when the suspended equipment is being used for test surveys, the wire line used to run the tools is not left in the well. This results in considerable savings; particularly when a plurality of wells in a field are being surveyed. Tubing hanger locking lugs are shifted radially outwardly into a nipple recess by a longitudinal, movable camming and lug-locking tubular sleeve extension from the tool fishing neck, with the sleeve lockable by a ball recess lock interference fit. A resiliently displaceable plunger structure permits a recess relief unlock for the balls, from the ball recess lock interference fit and thereby permits unlock release movement of said tubular sleeve, with the tool fishing neck, for unlocking the locking lugs from the extended state.
