Abstract: A pressure- or heat-sensitive recording material which, in its color reactant system, contains as a color developer for the color former, at least one substituted resorcinol compound of the formula ##STR1## or a corresponding zinc or aluminium salt, in which R is a carboxyl- or aroyl-free substituent which has a positive Hammett para-sigma value and which is capable of forming, together with the adjacent hydroxyl group, an intramolecular hydrogen bond in the form of a six-membered ring.

Abstract: The invention relates to oligomers containing structural units of the formulae ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1 is --CN, --COOR.sub.1, --OOCR.sub.2 or --CONHR.sub.3, Y.sub.1 is --COOH or --COOM.sub.2, Y.sub.2 is --CONH.sub.2, --CH.sub.2 OH, --OCH.sub.3 or --OC.sub.2 H.sub.5, each of Z.sub.1, Z.sub.2 and Z.sub.3 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, each of M.sub.1 and M.sub.2 is an amine cation, an ammonium cation or an alkali metal cation, and each of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -hydroxyalkyl or alkoxyalkyl containing altogether at most 8 carbon atoms, fatliquoring the treated leather and drying it, and, if appropriate, additionally dyeing said treated leather before or after it has been fatliquored.These oligomers are suitable for use as tanning agents in a process for retanning chrome-tanned leather.

They are obtained by reacting a sulphonation product, which is previously formed from a diphenyl ether, a phenol and a sulphonating agent, with formaldehyde, with a reaction mixture of an aminoplast-forming agent and formaldehyde or with an aminoplast precondensate.

Abstract: The invention relates to reaction products of phenolsulphonic acid-urea-formaldehyde as agents for tanning of skins or leather. They are manufactured from a hydroxyphenylsulphone-hydroxyphenyl-monosulphonic acid which is condensed with an alkoxybenzene, this condensation product being reacted at elevated temperature in an aqueous-acid medium with an urea formaldehyde mixture or with a methylolated urea.

Abstract: A process for the filling of leather tanned with mineral, vegetable and/or synthetic tanning agents by treating the leather, in the acid pH-range , with an aqueous solution of a filling agent consisting of unsubstituted or substituted homo- or copolymeric acrylic acids and protein glue, alone or in admixture with further additives, as well as dry or liquid compositions thereof, are disclosed; thereby an even fullness of the leather is obtained without impairing the handle, the buffing properties, the tightness of the grain, the fine grain or the dyeability of said leathers.
