    Abstract: A system and a method for determining a degree of fouling formation in a compressor, e.g., in an ethylene production unit or other application. Data associated with the operation of the compressor is collected. Based on the collected data, polytropic efficiency of the compressor is calculated. The estimated polytropic efficiency is normalized to render the estimate more indicative of the degree of fouling.
