  • Publication number: 20190334252
Abstract: A dual ultra-wideband electronically scanning antenna linear array and a method for producing same is disclosed. In one embodiment, the antenna is comprised of circuit board-based multi-layered sections with integrated feeds. A first dielectric layer or substrate has a thin metal coating on the bottom surface to form a signal ground and metal coating on the top surface where capacitively loaded radiating dipoles are etched. Each of the dipole elements are connected to an associated conductive antenna feed disposed on a bottom surface of another dielectric layer disposed below the first dielectric layer.

  • Publication number: 20190326685
Abstract: Unit cells for phased array antennas are described. The unit cells include a plurality of dipole antennas that are used to form a phased array antenna. In particular, the unit cells that form the phased array antenna each include a plurality of dipole antennas formed on a surface of a substrate that are arranged to collectively form a triangle. A plurality of the unit cells may be linked together to form a triangular lattice array having almost any desired size and aperture, thereby allowing the RF engineer the freedom to achieve a wide variety of performance goals when designing a phased array antenna.

  • Patent number: 9899732
Abstract: A reconfigurable antenna is provided having a liquid metal in contact with an electrolyte with the liquid metal being in a first configuration. A plurality of electrodes includes a first electrode in contact with the liquid metal and a second electrode in contact with the electrolyte. A voltage source connected across the first and second electrodes applies a voltage of a predetermined magnitude and a predetermined polarity in order to move the liquid metal from the first configuration to a second configuration and to measure resultant current flow and modify the applied voltage based on the resultant current flow. Cessation of the applied voltage locks the liquid metal in this second configuration.

  • Publication number: 20170264007
Abstract: A method for repair of a multifunctional wideband array includes processes and operations of assessing electrical and structural impairment to the multifunctional wideband array; cutting an opening in a superstrate of the multifunctional wideband array to expose an impaired backskin section of a lower electronics assembly of the multifunctional wideband array; replacing the impaired backskin section with a replacement backskin section; and repairing the opening in the superstrate. A system of multifunctional wideband array repair includes a core having longitudinal core strips and transverse core strips; a backskin having electronics connected to the core and providing electrical functionality enabling the core cells of the core to function as a phased array antenna aperture; a number of splice clips connecting longitudinal core strips to longitudinal repair core strips; and a section of the backskin electrically connected and structurally bonded to the repair core strips.

  • Patent number: 9559397
Abstract: A circular dielectric polarizer can have a cylindrical shape and include a dielectric slab, a dielectric core, and at least one air cutouts portions of the dielectric core. The dielectric slab can include a first dielectric material and have a thickness centered about an axis of the cylindrical shape. The dielectric core can include a second dielectric material. Portions of the dielectric core can be located on different sides of the dielectric slab. The dielectric core and the dielectric slab can form the cylindrical shape. The dielectric constant of the first dielectric material can be higher than a dielectric constant of the second dielectric material. Parameters of the circular dielectric polarizer, the dielectric slab, the dielectric core, and the at least one air cutout are selected to obtain approximately a 90 degree difference in phase in a signal passing through the circular dielectric polarizer at a target frequency.
