    Abstract: There is disclosed an expanding gate valve having seats which are press-fitted into annular recesses in the valve body on opposite sides of the gate, each seat including a ring having at least one annular rib on its outer end which is of a harder material than that of the inner end of the recess and embedded therein to form a pressure barrier between the seat and recess.
