  • Patent number: 11499451
Abstract: A valve spring retainer for an internal combustion engine includes a body having a lower portion and an upper portion. The lower portion defines a radial flange and a first opening extending axially therethrough. The upper portion includes a first wall and a re-entrant lip. The first wall extends at least partially axially away from an outer perimeter edge of the radial flange. Together, the first wall and the radial flange define an open reservoir for receiving and retaining oil therein. The re-entrant lip extends from an outer end of the first wall at least partially radially inward toward a central axis of the first opening. The re-entrant lip extends over a portion of the reservoir defined by the first wall and the radial flange.

Date of Patent: November 15, 2022
    Assignee: Cummins Power Generation Limited
Inventors: Simon Anthony Burge, Alex Edward Priestley, Jordan B. Pitcher

  • Patent number: 9915191
Abstract: An intake manifold is provided that controls swirl on entry to a combustion chamber. Each intake manifold includes a fin or rib portion positioned to reduce or eliminate swirl induced by the configuration of the intake manifold, particularly when used in a large engine having a left bank and a right bank of combustion chambers. By controlling swirl induced by the intake manifold, swirl consistency is improved between engine cylinders and between the left bank and the right bank, improving the consistency of power output and reducing emissions, particularly particulate emissions, also called smoke.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: March 13, 2018
    Assignee: CUMMINS INC.
Inventors: Paul Douglas Free, Jason Robert Griffin, Alex Edward Priestley, Stephen Sunadh Gidla, Peter Vinson Woon, Joseph Scot Roederer
