Abstract: The invention concerns 4-hydroxy-5-methoxyindole and 5-ethoxy-4-hydroxy-2-methylindole which are useful as dyes for dyeing keratin materials.

Abstract: Alkylamino-mercaptoalkylamides have the formula ##STR1## where in A represents the divalent radical --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --, wherein n is a whole number ranging from 2 to 5, or the divalent radical --(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --,m is 0, 1 or 2,R.sub.1 represents hydrogen or linear or branched lower alkyl having 1-5 carbon atoms,R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, each independently, represent hydrogen or a linear or branched lower alkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms with the proviso that R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are not hydrogen simultaneously and the salts of the compound of formula I as well as the corresponding disulfides with the exclusion of the disulfide in which A.dbd.--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --, m.dbd.0, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 .dbd.H and R.sub.3 .dbd.--C.sub.2 H.sub.5. The compound of formula I is used as a reducing agent in a cosmetic composition for the permanent deformation of hair.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use, as coupler in a dyeing composition, of a hydroxybenzofuran of formula (I): ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which are identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl radical. When they denote an alkyl radical, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 can occupy any position on the benzofuran ring except the positions 2 and 3 at the same time. The OH group may occupy one of the positions 4, 5, 6 or 7, in combination with one or more para type or ortho type oxidation dye precursors or mixtures thereof, for dyeing keratinous fibers and in particular human hair. The dyeing composition according to the invention makes it possible to confer on the keratinous fibers a color which is fast to light, washes, adverse weather conditions and perspiration.

Abstract: The present invention provides a cosmetic temporary coloring composition which comprises a cosmetically acceptable support and, as an active ingredient, at least one chemically modified protein derivative which contains residues of molecules of dye grafted onto the protein chain. Thus, certain of the side chains of the protein derivative having amine, alcohol or thiol functions are substituted by residues of dye molecules. The present invention further provides a process for the temporary coloring of human hair, nails or skin comprising applying thereto in an amount effective to color the human hair, nails or skin a composition containing a solution in water, a lower mono-alcohol or polyol or an aqueous alcoholic mixture wherein the alcohol is present in an amount ranging from 0.5 to 50 percent by weight of the chemically modified protein derivative.

Abstract: The invention provides dyeing compositions for keratin fibres, which contain at least one dyestuff corresponding to the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently of one another denote a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a monohydroxyalkyl or polyhydroxyalkyl group, an alkyl group substituted by an alkoxy group, or an aminoalkyl group of which the amino group can optionally be monosubstituted or disubstituted by an alkyl group, and the radical R.sub.2 can also denote a phenyl group or a phenyl group substituted by an alkyl, hydroxyl or amino group, and Z denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, or their cosmetically acceptable salts. Abstract: New chloro-meta-phenylenediamines, their use as couplers in the oxidation dyeing of keratinous fibres, dyeing compositions for hair containing these compounds and dyeing process using the said compositions.The invention relates to the compounds of formula: ##STR1## in which Z and Z' denote, independently of one another, an alkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a hydroxyalkyl radical having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, andR.sub.1 and R.sub.2 denote, independently of one another, a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a mono- or polyhydroxyalkyl radical having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, to their addition salts with an acid, and to their use by way of couplers for the oxidation dyeing of keratinous fibres, especially human hair.These compounds, when they are combined with paraphenylenediamines, surprisingly give beige to light brown hues or purple hues of greater of lesser redness, depending on the substitution of the 5-amino group of the chlorobenzene.
