  • Publication number: 20240193765
Abstract: In generating training and testing datasets for machine learning, manual annotation of a large volume of data is impractical and expensive. A machine-learning model for detecting carcinoma (CA) from a whole slide image (WSI) processes average cellular features of cells identified on the WSI. Each cellular feature is a descriptive statistic of the cells, advantageously allowing the training and testing datasets to be constructed without a costly annotation process of pixelwise labelling each cell on a WSI training sample. Apart from predicting a CA case or a non-CA case for the WSI, the machine-learning model is also usable to: identify a suspicious CA case for priority assessment if a non-CA case is predicted for the WSI; generate a tumor probability heatmap of the WSI for visualizing potential CA regions on the WSI to assist pathological assessment; and assess quality control of a triage system before implementation in clinical setting.

  • Patent number: 8961231
Abstract: An improved electrical connector retainer employs a shell having a cavity. A pair of mated electrical connectors are received within the cavity and at least a portion of an upper wall of the shell is deflected towards a lower wall of the shell. The shell is configured to retain the upper wall in the deflected position, maintaining the pair of connectors in the mated position.

  • Patent number: 8858271
Abstract: An interconnect for an internal device, such as a speaker, coupling power from a flexible connector to the speaker at two or more terminals. The interconnect includes a flexible element, such as a “minus” terminal, and a second element, such as a “plus” terminal, which are coupled to corresponding terminals on the flexible connector. A screw can be threaded through a hole in the flexible element, the corresponding terminals, and can be terminated at the second element. The screw presses the “minus” terminal and the “plus” terminal into their corresponding terminals, making an electrical connection and a physical connection.

  • Patent number: 8834443
Abstract: A kit of parts for an injection safety system comprises a vial comprising a container for storing an injectable substance, and an identifier removably secured to the container. The identifier comprises an indicium of the substance, and an engagement portion. The kit of parts further comprises a syringe for drawing the substance from the vial. The syringe comprises a mating engagement portion. The mating engagement portion is mateable with the engagement portion to secure the identifier to the syringe and transfer the identifier from the vial to the syringe.

  • Publication number: 20040229211
Abstract: This invention provides a new and more sensitive methodology for multiplex real time PCR testing of any genetic materials. The method is best illustrated here with the detection and diagnosis of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) but can be applicable to any other usage where more sensitivity is required. It can be combined with the usual multiplex real time PCR test for further confirmation and multiple parameter assessment of SARS or other diseases. A kit form is provided for the detection of SARS by this methodology, but equally applicable to other diseases or testing conditions.

  • Publication number: 20030228575
Abstract: The present invention features methods for diagnosing, detecting, monitoring and determining the prognosis of Epstein Barr virus associated cancers in a patient by detecting or measuring EBV DNA present in the serum or plasma of the patient followed by EBV subtyping of polymorphisms. The sensitivity of the circulating EBV DNA serves as a good screening tool while the EBV subtyping of polymorphism confirms the prognosis or diagnosis of EBV associated malignancies. The present invention also features diagnostic kits comprising suitable reagents for the above tests.
