  • Patent number: 6322215
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel, non-progressive trifocal ophthalmic lens comprising distance-vision, near-vision and intermediate-vision optic fields. The non-progressive element of the trifocal lens is achieved by blending the transition zones between the different fields of vision. Further, unlike traditional trifocal lenses, the transition zones of the present invention are of uniform width, providing a smooth transition between the different optic fields that can not be easily discerned by a person observing a wearer of said ophthalmic lens.

  • Patent number: 5147437
Abstract: A mold blank for manufacturing eyeglass lenses containing a flat top bifocal segment. A ceramic platform is first constructed containing an optical surface having a recess corresponding to the flat top bifocal segment. A concave-convex glass mold blank polished on both sides is placed on the optical surface and across the recess of the platform and the mold blank together with the platform is placed in a furnace. The furnace is then heated to a preselected temperature at which the mold blank thermally deforms and sags against the optical surface and into the recess. Upon cooling the mold blank can be used to mold plastic eyeglass lenses. A method for making the mold blank is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5131738
Abstract: The present invention provides an aspherical spectacle lens blank for a normal, non-aphakic eyeglass wearer. The lens blank is generally circular in shape and includes a central circular zone which is surrounded by four or more concentric outer zones. For the plus power lens, the outer zones are decreased in diopter refraction from the central zone to the outer peripheral zone. The lens blank of the present invention is lighter and thinner than the previously known spectacle lens blanks.

  • Patent number: 5054904
Abstract: The present invention provides an aspherical spectacle lens blank. The lens blank is generally circular in shape and includes a central circular zone which is surrounded by three or more concentric outer zones. For a plus power lens, the outer zones decrease in diopter refraction and, conversely, for a minus power lens, the outer zones increase in diopter refraction from the central zone and to the outer peripheral zone. The lens blank of the present invention is lighter and thinner than the previously known spectacle lens blanks.

  • Patent number: 4573777
Abstract: The present invention provides a spectacle lens blank for an aphakic eye and which is adapted to be worn in front of the eye by patients following extra capsular surgery. The lens blank includes a lens body having a posterior surface and an aspherical anterior surface in which the lens power decreases from the center and towards the edges of the lens blank. The lens blank also includes a flat top bifocal lens segment having an optical center on the same vertical center line as the lens body but in which the flat top is spaced downwardly from the optical center of the lens body by one to four millimeters and preferably by substantially 3 millimeters. In use, the lens blank can be trimmed to fit eyeglass frames to produce either a left lens or right lens.

  • Patent number: 4538887
Abstract: The present invention provides a spectacle lens blank for an aphakic eye and which is adapted to be positioned at a predetermined position in front of the eye. The lens blank includes a lens body having a posterior surface and an anterior surface. The anterior surface is aspherical from its center and to its outer periphery and the radius of curvature of the anterior surface is formed with a variable diopter gradient which is proportional to the distance between the eye and the anterior surface when the lens blank is at its predetermined position. Preferably, the lens power decreases six diopters from the center and to the outer periphery of the lens blank. In use, the lens blank of the present invention provides a wide field of central and peripheral vision for a person following extra-capsular surgery.
