  • Patent number: 7129809
Abstract: A planar magnetic device comprising a molded header and a planar core assembly, and a method of making a planar magnetic device. The molded header has first, second, third, and fourth sides and an aperture in the center. The first side has a plurality of terminals positioned through it. The third and fourth sides have upper surfaces that are lower than the upper surfaces of the first side. The planar core assembly comprises planar windings and a core. One side of the planar winding has a plurality of terminals with through-holes so that the primary terminals of the header are positioned through the through-holes. The core surrounds at least a portion of the planar windings. The core is shaped so that a first portion of the core is positioned in the aperture, a second portion of the core is positioned on the upper surface of the third side, and a third portion of the core is positioned on the upper surface of the fourth side.

  • Patent number: 5010314
Abstract: A low-profile planar type transformer having a unique bobbin design and a minimum of other pieces. The transformer is assembled by simply stacking all of the pieces, other than core pieces, in a sandwich-like-laminate and placing two appropriately shaped ferrite core pieces around the stack. In the preferred embodiment, the stack consists of the following layers, in the listed order: (a) a first thin dielectric spacer; (b) a first planar member (e.g., a PC board) containing a first winding; (c) two thin dielectric insulators; (d) a first nylon bobbin member; (e) a second planar member containing a second winding; (f) a third thin dielectric insulator; (g) a third planar member containing a third bobbin member; (h) a second nylon bobbin member; (i) two thin dielectric insulator; (j) a fourth planar member containing a fourth widning, and (k) a seventh thin dielectric insualtor.

  • Patent number: 4622627
Abstract: Electrical switching power supply for microprocessors and the like comprising a high voltage d.c. source (30, 34, 32, 50) resonant circuit (38, 51, 42, 52) including a switching transistor (52) which is operated in Megahertz range and provides pulses, via a transformer (40), rectifier (56), smoothing choke (62) to a d.c. low voltage output terminal (66). The rate of switching is controlled by a pulse generator (54) which pulses variably in response to output voltage to thereby vary switching repetition rate and hold to a predetermined output voltage. The inductive elements use spirals (12A and 12A') of thin lines on the surface of a substrate board and ferrite plugs (20) passing through holes (22) in the board to provide miniature inductive elements built into the substrate for effective use in a microprocessor power supply, or the like, and in other applications.
