  • Patent number: 4979726
Abstract: A chair having lifting means for assisting a physically impaired occupant to arise from the chair, having a frame, a seat hingeadly mounted at its forward edge to the frame, seat lifting means, and spring biasing actuating means arranged to spring-bias the seat to an upwardmost position, thereby assisting the occupant of the seat to rise out of the seat.

  • Patent number: 4929022
Abstract: A chair having lifting means for assisting a physically impaired occupant to arise out of the chair, the chair having a frame, a seat having its forward edge hingedly mounted on the frame, and means for applying lifting force to cause the rear edge of the seat to be lifted upwardly to assist the occupant to arise, comprising foot-operated lever means arranged to impart lifting force to the seat when the occupant applies foot force to a foot step connected to the lever means, manually operated lever means to apply lifting force when the manually operated lever means is pulled back by the hands of the occupant, means for coupling the foot-operated lever means with the manually operated lever means, and, in a preferred embodiment, spring means providing additional force in assisting the seat to be raised, the arrangement being such that when the occupant steps on the foot step and pulls back on the manually operated lever means, the rear portion of the seat is raised and assists the occupant to arise out of the

  • Patent number: 4743010
Abstract: A rowing machine comprising a base, a rowing arm pivotally mounted at one end to the base, a seat assembly pivotally mounted on the base rearwardly of the rowing arm, a foot pedal assembly pivotally mounted on the base forwardly of the rowing arm, a first connecting arm pivotally connected at one end to the foot pedal assembly at a point spaced above the base and at the other end to the rowing arm at a point spaced above the base, and a second connecting arm pivotally connected at one end to the rowing arm at a point spaced above the base and pivotally connected at the other end to the seat assembly at a point spaced above the base. In operation, as the operator pulls back on the rowing arm, the pedals move back and the seat moves back and up. The upward movement of the seat affords a certain amount of resistance to the operator as he lifts his own weight.

  • Patent number: 4632385
Abstract: An exercise apparatus comprising a supporting frame formed of a pair of longitudinal spaced-apart and interconnected foot platform support and guide members and a pair of spaced-apart transverse frame members affixed thereto, a pair of spaced foot-supporting platforms mounted for guided parallel reciprocal movement, the foot support platforms being interconnected for relative movement only in opposite reciprocal directions, a pair of lateral supporting frames affixed to the frame, and a pair of arm support members pivotally mounted on the supporting frames with each arm support member having its lower end pivotally connected with a foot supporting platform, whereby the arm support members move reciprocally simultaneously with the foot supporting platforms, but in the opposite reciprocal direction.

  • Patent number: 3985317
Abstract: A short coupled airplane with variable wing lift comprising a fuselage that is free of the conventional tail assembly and has a wing structure comprising a plurality of short span wing segments spaced apart longitudinally of the fuselage with the forwardmost wing section being located forwardly of and above the level of the aircraft center of gravity, and the rearwardmost wing section being located rearwardly of, and below the level of the aircraft center of gravity. The wing sections at their projecting ends on either side of the airplane are connected by vertical airfoils each equipped with a rudder. The wing sections along their trailing edges are each equipped, on either side of the fuselage, with full span, vertically swingable members that combine the functions of flaps and elevators (and are thus called eleflaps). The eleflaps and rudders are respectively moved in unison to elevate, lower, and steer the aircraft.
