Patent number: 8411749Abstract: A system (and a method) are disclosed for intelligently fetch one or multiple reference blocks from memory for each block to be motion compensated or motion estimated within a video processing system. The system includes a reference block configuration evaluation unit and a motion compensation memory fetching unit. The reference block configuration evaluation unit analyzes the reference block configuration of the block being motion compensated with a plurality of reference block configurations of its neighboring blocks. In response to a reference block configuration evaluation result, the reference block configuration evaluation unit decides the configuration of reference blocks to be fetched from a memory. The motion vector memory fetching unit fetches the number of reference blocks for motion compensation accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2009Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: Zenverge, Inc.Inventors: Rojit Jacob, Alexander Kipnis, Behzad R. Patent number: 5873900Abstract: An electronic pain feedback system for use by a patient in determining the effectiveness of a pain treatment. The system includes an input device connected to a memory device. The input device includes a scale on which the patient enters perceived pain level data to initiate the pain treatment. The input device signals this data to the memory device where it is recorded. The electronic pain feedback system can alternatively include a clock and intensity sensor for recording a treatment session duration and intensity. The data received and recorded can be used by the electronic pain feedback system to evaluate the effectiveness of the pain treatment.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1997Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Empi, Inc.Inventors: Donald D. Patent number: 5667615Abstract: An incontinence electrode for controlling urinary incontinence in women is made of alternating bands of conductive and non-conductive polymers molded to form a tubular body. Electrical receptacles, formed in the molding process at the interior circumferential surface of the conductive polymer bands, accept metal contacts attached to electrical leads to make a secure and durable, mechanical and electrical connection between the conductive polymer bands and the leads. The leads are coupled to a controller and carry electrical current to and from the metal contacts which then distribute the current to the conductive polymer bands to cause a contraction of the vaginal muscles responsible for controlling urinary incontinence in women.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1996Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Empi, Inc.Inventors: Donald D. Maurer, Alexander Kipnis

Patent number: 5399154Abstract: A range-of-motion splint for applying constant torque across a joint undergoing rehabilitative therapy. The splint includes a first brace section configured to engage a portion of a patient's body on a first side of a joint, and a second brace section configured to engage a portion of the patient's body on a second side of the joint. A first arm extends from the first brace section and a second arm extends from the second brace section. The first and second brace section arms are pivotally connected about a splint pivot axis by a pivot mechanism. A driven pulley is mounted to the second arm about the splint pivot axis. A drive pulley is rotatably mounted to the first arm about a drive axis which is spaced from the splint pivot axis. Torque is applied to the drive pulley with respect to the first arm by a spiral spring positioned about the drive axis.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1993Date of Patent: March 21, 1995Assignee: Empi, Inc.Inventors: Alexander Kipnis, Yuri Belman

Patent number: 5263489Abstract: A method for treating electromyographic signals obtained from one or more muscles in the body which are subject to both volitional motion and externally forced motion to provide one or more indices which indicate the relative control signal energy provided to such a muscle or muscles during contractions and lengthenings thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1989Date of Patent: November 23, 1993Assignee: Empi, Inc.Inventors: Michael T. Patent number: 5233987Abstract: A medical patient's compliance with a prescribed regimen of treatment is monitored through elapsed time of equipment operation. A treatment device used by the patient applies a stimulation signal to the patient through an electrode and counts a first clock signal which produces a first count indicative of the length of time which the stimulation signal is applied. When the patient revisits the doctor, a compliance monitor readout device is connected to the treatment device to facilitate the compliance monitoring. The treatment device then counts, in response to second clock signal generated by the compliance monitor, from the first count to a second predetermined count. The compliance monitor readout device also counts the second clock signal and produces a third count. The compliance monitor readout device then displays an output as a function of the third count.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1992Date of Patent: August 10, 1993Assignee: Empi, Inc.Inventors: Liboslav Fabian, Alexander Kipnis

Patent number: 4964411Abstract: A method generates signal data which is representative of short and long latency components of myoelectric signals. Production of myoelectric signals is repeatedly evoked in a muscle with triggering events. Myoelectric signal data which is representative of the produced myoelectric signals is stored as a temporal function of the triggering events. The myoelectric signal data is averaged before it is demodulated to produce short latency signal data representative of the short latency components of the myoelectric signals. The myoelectric signal data is also demodulated before it is averaged to produce combined short and long latency signal data. The combined signal data is summed with the short latency signal data to isolate the long latency signal data.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignee: Empi, Inc.Inventors: Michael T.
