    Abstract: Silicone flexible foams of good fire-resistance and extremely low density from about 5 to 14 lbs/ft..sup.3, having good mechanical and physical properties, are provided. The curable and foamable compositions are prepared from a multi-component mixture comprising, as part A, a high molecular weight uncured vinyl-terminated siloxane polymer, a polydimethyl silanol terminated reactive diluent, and an inorganic filler to improve fire resistance, water and a complex platinum catalyst, and as part B, a polydimethyl hydrogen siloxane. The viscosity of part A of the mixture prior to gelling and foaming is from about 30,000-65,000 cps. This mixture becomes foamable and curable at ambient temperature.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a plastics material with a resin binder having a combination of fusible fillers and high temperature fillers. The fusible fillers begin melting at relatively low temperatures and retain a spreaded liquidous form over a large temperature range. The high temperature fillers resist melting at high temperatures and form an insulative layer over the resin binder of the plastics cellular material.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a plastics cellular material and to a process for production of a plastics cellular material. The plastics cellular material has a resin binder and is characterized by the inclusion of products of the reaction of polyester resins and epoxy-based vinyl esters in the presence of surfactants. The process includes taking a first mixture of an unsaturated fast curing polyester resin, epoxy-based vinyl esters, copolymerizeable monomers, a finely dispersed gas releasing salt, hardening accelerators, finely dispersed surfactants, and fillers. The process also includes taking a second mixture is mixed that includes an acidic solution, for reaction with the gas releasing salt as a blowing agent, and organic catalysts. The two mixtures are combined to form a third mixture that will foam in a controllable manner and cure to produce a foam material.

    Abstract: Foamed articles are made by causing the cross-linking of a thermosetting in, preferably a polyester resin, concurrently with the production of carbon dioxide by the reaction of a carbonate with an inorganic acid. The carbonate is mixed with the resin and the acid then folded in in a progressively accelerated blending operation, whereupon carbon dioxide is generated to foam the resin, the carbonate, acid and setting time of the resin being selected to obtain an appropriate match between the progress of the foaming operation and the setting of the foam. The foam may be made in a mold coated with resin impregnated glass fibers, the impregnating resin becoming cross-linked with the foam. The impregnating resin may also be cross-linked with a resin gel coat, the glass fibers forming a tough layer between the gel coat and the foam.
