    Abstract: A crane is provided with a sheave-block, a winch for lifting and lowering the sheave-block, a crane hook, spring-loaded catches for demountably attaching the crane hook to the sheave-block, and a tension-imparting winch unit for lifting and lowering the crane hook independently of the sheave-block the tension-imparting winch unit being provided with an "over-riding" device whereby tension on the winch cable is removed.
