  • Patent number: 4416733
Abstract: A dry quenching apparatus for hot coke has an upright housing having openings for charging and discharging the coke. An annular header for exhausting gases from the quenching zone is arranged in the middle portion of the housing. In the lower portion of the housing there is an annular header for supplying a cooling agent and communicating through corresponding passages with a distributor disposed above the annular header for supplying a cooling agent and centrally of the housing. An annular distribution header is arranged above the annular header for supplying a cooling agent and has vertical partition walls dividing the distribution header into sections. Each section has at least one opening through which the annular header for supplying gases and the annular distribution header communicate. At least one opening in each section accommodates a flow governor for a cooling agent.

  • Patent number: 4360403
Abstract: A method of charging coke ovens with coal through charging holes and simultaneously withdrawing gases evolving from the coal charge through the middle charging holes thereof, holding the coal charge over a period of time sufficient for a coal-charging machine to deliver a next batch of said coal charge for charging the next successive coke oven, completely charging said coke oven while simultaneously charging the next successive coke oven through its extreme charging holes, and withdrawing through said middle charging holes of said coke oven being completely charged, said coke-oven gases and introducing a gas inert to said coke-oven gas in an amount of 15-20% of the total amount of the coke-oven gas being withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 4345867
Abstract: A coke quenching plant comprises vertical quenching chambers arranged in a row and each having a coke-charging means installed in the upper part thereof, hoisting shafts, each of which is located opposite a corresponding quenching chamber, and lifts. Each of the lifts is provided with a carriage transporting a body for carrying coke upwards from the hoisting shaft to the coke-charging means, and downwards. Also provided in the plant is a trestle installed along the quenching chambers on the level of the lifts coming out from the hoisting shafts, and a means for transferring the carriage of the lift in horizontal plane along the trestle and perpendicularly thereto.

  • Patent number: 4306941
Abstract: A dry coke quenching process comprises the steps of preheating a coke from a coke oven to a temperature of not lower than 1200.degree. C. by way of burning over its layer a combustible gas mixed with heated air, cooling the coke first to a temperature of not lower than 700.degree. C. with a mixture of hydrocarbons and water vapor, and then with an inert gas to a temperature of from 200.degree. to 250.degree. C.An apparatus for effecting the process of the invention comprises a chamber lined from inside with refractory brick and provided with a means for introducing a combustible gas and heated air to the upper part of the chamber and for discharging combustion gases therefrom. Provided in the middle part of the chamber are means intended for a heated mixture of hydrocarbons and water vapor to pass in therethrough and for a flow of the resultant gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide to escape therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4282069
Abstract: A coke dry quenching apparatus comprises a vertical chamber in the lower portion of which is disposed a quenching gas feeding means. The chamber has in its roof a charging hole and in its bottom a discharging gate. In the walls of the chamber is disposed a plurality of peripheral gas conduits communicated with the inner space of the chamber and with an annular collector having a common gas withdrawal conduit. According to the invention the hollow of the collector is divided by a horizontal partition provided with ports into two cavities communicating with one another, the lower cavity being communicated with the peripheral gas conduits and the upper one with the common gas withdrawal conduit.Due to the fact that the pressure of quenching gas in the lower cavity of the collector is equalized, the proposed apparatus ensures that the quenching gas flow rate through all the peripheral gas withdrawal conduits is practically equal, which provides for a uniform cooling of the whole mass of the coke being treated.

C.In the course of operation, coke, heated to a temperature of not lower than 1200.degree. C., is passed to the middle part of a chamber wherein a flow of a gas-steam mixture heated to a temperature of up to 700.degree. C. is introduced in countercurrent relation to the flow of coke. Resulting from the process of conversion of hydrocarbons with water vapor is gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The blast-furnace coke with a temperature of not lower than 700.degree. C. is passed from a middle part of the chamber to a lower part thereof wherein it is cooled to a temperature of 200.degree. to 250.

  • Patent number: 4163694
Abstract: A heating wall for coke ovens with horizontal coking chambers comprises vertical heating flues arranged in pairs, every pair of adjoining heating flues being separated by a partition formed with a flow port in the upper portion. Lateral sides of the flow port are provided with vertical slot-like guides which accommodate projections of a slide gate. The guides are formed in their upper portion with stepped recesses the vertical extent of which exceeds the length of the slide gate projections. The slide gate center of gravity is shifted with respect to the longitudinal axis of its projections in the direction opposite to the stepped recesses. The slide gate is provided with means for introducing a hook and vertically moving the slide gate into its uppermost and lowermost position in the flow port. As a result, the flow port vertical position is changed substantially without changing the clear opening of the flow port.
