Publication number: 20220393867Abstract: This Application sets forth techniques for establishing a custodial relationship between a user device and a custodian device for recovering access to a user account and/or to encrypted user data with assistance provided by the custodian device to effect access recovery. A server of a cloud network service provides an anonymous identifier to associate with the custodian device and an account recovery key to store at the custodian device. Identity of an account of the cloud network service associated with the custodian device can be hidden from the server. The user device generates a data recovery key and provides a first portion of the data recovery key to the custodian device and a second portion of the data recovery key to the server. Integrity of the stored account recovery key and portions of the data recovery key are checked regularly by the custodian device and the user device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2022Publication date: December 8, 2022Inventors: Gokul P. Publication number: 20220264262Abstract: Techniques for triggering an action associated with a task items are provided. A task item associated with a triggering criterion is provided. The triggering criterion requires an occurrence of any of a plurality of communication events. The plurality of communication events includes a telephone call. In some implementations, at least two of the plurality of communication events are of different communication types. In some implementations, the different types are telephone calls, emails, and text messages. The occurrence of a first communication event of the plurality of communication events is detected. It is determined the triggering criterion is satisfied. In response to the determining, a notification associated with the task item is caused to be presented to a user of the electronic device.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2022Publication date: August 18, 2022Inventors: Thomas Robert GRUBER, Alessandro F. SABATELLI, Alexandre A. AYBES, Donald W. PITSCHEL, Edward D. VOAS, Freddy A. ANZURES, Paul D. MARCOS

Patent number: 11190586Abstract: A messaging system uses a cloud storage backup system for messages and a temporary storage for messages that are not deliverable to offline devices at the time that the messages are sent by one or more messaging servers. The messages are backed up through a synchronization process that transfers a batch of a plurality of messages rather than a single message or an entire database of messages. A conversation state can be synchronized first before synchronizing messages through the transfer of one or more batches of messages.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2020Date of Patent: November 30, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Kevin J. Lindeman, Roberto Garcia, Gokul Thirumalai, Alexandre A. Aybes, Bhaskar P. Sarma, Ori Herrnstadt, Raghav V. Pisolkar, Michael D. Ford, Robert Y. Loh

Patent number: 11120372Abstract: Techniques for processing task items are provided. A task item is electronic data that represents a task to be performed, whether manually or automatically. A task item includes one or more details about its corresponding task, such as a description of the task and a location of the task. Specifically, techniques for generating task items, organizing task items, triggering notifications of task items, and consuming task items are described. In one approach, a task item is generated based on input from a user and context of the input. In another approach, different attributes of task items are used to organize the task items intelligently into multiple lists. In another approach, one or more criteria, such as location, are used to determine when to notify a user of a task. In another approach, actions other than generating notifications are enabled or automatically performed, actions such as emailing, calling, texting, and searching.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2020Date of Patent: September 14, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Thomas R. Patent number: 11010485Abstract: Data items such as files or database records associated with particular applications (such as messaging applications and other applications) can be stored in one or more remote locations, such as a cloud storage system, and synchronized with other devices. The remote storage can be configured such that each application executing on a client device can only view data items stored at the remote location to which the application has permission to access. An access manager on each client device enforces application specific access policies. Storage at the remote location can be secured for each application associated with a user or user account, for example, using isolated containers. The cloud storage of data can be anonymized and anonymous group data can be stored in the cloud storage.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2018Date of Patent: May 18, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sean P. Devlin, William E. Anderson, Daniel M. Zitter, Alexandre A. Aybes, Olivier Bonnet, Yannick Sierra

Patent number: 10397470Abstract: A digital image capture system and method uses a display device to illuminate a target with light for improved image capture under poor lighting conditions. Various characteristics of the flash (e.g., brightness, color, duration, etc.) can be adjusted to improve image capture. Users are provided with feedback (e.g., live video feed, audio and/or visual countdowns, etc.) to assist them in preparing for image capture. The captured images are seamlessly integrated with existing applications (e.g., video conferencing, instant text messaging, etc.).Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2018Date of Patent: August 27, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jean-Pierre Ciudad, Alexandre Aybes, Peter Westen, Gregory N. Patent number: 10379728Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a graphical user interface on a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display includes: an application interface of an application that includes an application interface region with an edge; and a search input area for entering a search query for the application. In response to detecting a movement of an object on or near the touch screen display, the application interface region is translated on the touch screen display in a first direction. In response to the edge of the application interface region being crossed while translating the application interface region in the first direction while the object is still detected on or near the touch screen display, the edge of the application interface region is displayed, and the search input area is displayed in an area beyond the application interface region.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2012Date of Patent: August 13, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Marcel Van Os, Stephen O.
