  • Publication number: 20070135844
Abstract: A surgical apparatus and process for freezing or cauterizing a particular infected body area employing a transparent sleeve insertable through a small slit in the flesh of a patient and wherein the inserted end of the sleeve is provided with a cone-shaped tip having a plurality of segments normally self biased to close to define a dull pointed end susceptible for expansion when a solid, rigid probe is inserted through the sleeve. The end of the probe includes a conical or cone-shaped tip with a small extension or projection that causes expansion of the flaps on the tip of the sleeve. The extension on the end of the probe is placed in alignment position to locate the infected organ or area to be removed. Monitoring of the sleeve and probe insertion and location of the infected area is achieved by video camera. After removing the solid and rigid probe, a fiber optic tube is inserted into the sleeve whereby ambient light is conducted through the tube to the advancing end of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6739878
Abstract: Pressure point contact for interconnecting electronic circuits wherein one component includes a flexible cable having a plurality of conductive strips with each strip terminating in contact pads having outwardly projecting pressure point contact mounds that protrude through a layer covering the strips with electrically insulated material. The other component of the interconnecting circuit includes a plurality of conductive contact elements placed on the exposed surface of a printed circuit board, LCD or other planar surface. A pressure plate is arcuate shaped and is employed for applying pressure to the backside of the flexible cable in order to force the contact mounds into pressure engagement with the contact elements on the planar surface. To provide equal application of pressure, a flat compression stabilizer plate is placed between the arcuate pressure plate and the backside of the cable.

  • Patent number: 6488532
Abstract: A flex cabling having a socket connector at one end and a pair of terminal caps at the other end. The flex cabling is plastic or the like into which at least one run of flat conductor material or wire is embedded extending from a pair of polarized terminals in the socket connector to the respective terminal caps. The flex cabling provides a one-piece unitary construction and the terminal caps are insertably receive the respective terminals on the battery. The terminals of the socket connector are marked with positive and negative indicia so that a mismatch of polarity from a plug of a battery charger cannot be misaligned. Misalignment is further avoided by providing a keyway in the cabling socket connector so that the connectors of the plug from the charger can only be inserted into the terminal openings of the socket connector in proper orientation.

  • Patent number: 6347915
Abstract: A two-piece lock washer for use with a variety of fasteners wherein the lock washer itself includes a pair of components having opposite end opposing surfaces formed with a plurality of inclined ramps and locking faces so that when the components are pressed together, the ramps will ride upon each other as the fastener is turned until locking faces engage where locking is produced. The lock washer includes a central opening through which the shank of a fastener is passed and an exterior surface of the washer bears against the workpiece while the exterior surface of the other component bears against the head of the fastener. Thereby axial compression of the lock washer components causes the locking faces of the ramps to engage as the fastener is tightened against the workpiece. Backing off is prevented due to locking face engagement and the provision of radial ribs bearing against the fastening nut and the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 6257329
Abstract: A thermal management system includes a compressed and heat treated graphite material layer or runs laminated between two layers of thin insulated layers providing an integral construction. Heat generating components are mounted on the insulation layers and openings are selectively placed in the insulation layers immediately adjacent to each heat generating component. Each opening is occupied by graphic material connecting with the runs of graphite material laminated between the insulated layers. Heat generated by the component is carried by the graphite in the openings serving as a connector to the graphite layer or run for transfer and connection away from the component. The graphite material layers serve as thermal bus lines designed into a suitable geometric configuration. The graphite material runs or strips terminate in a remote dissipation device or in a thermal utilization device.

  • Patent number: 6232552
Abstract: A holding block for wires having a plurality of grooves in a surface for receiving a plurality of wires in spaced-apart relationship including a plurality of sets of openings in the block straddling each wire in the plurality so that a retaining clip can be introduced into each of the respective sets of openings for retaining the wire in position. Each clip includes a pair of barbed legs inserted into the respective sets of openings so as to mate with and engage with notches or points along the length of openings. The clip employs a pressure-bearing member midway between the barbed legs for forcible engagement with the insulated portion of each wire so as to hold the wire in position on the block. Staggering of the clips between adjacent wires places the plurality of wires and clips close together.

  • Patent number: 6193414
Abstract: A temperature detector provides a base for supporting a stand which includes a cradle having an elongated open channel for supporting a heated curling iron. The cradle is resiliently carried on a post so that the cradle can move up and down over the terminating end of the post. The terminating end of the post includes a thermocouple which projects into and through an orifice in the cradle when the cradle is in the depressed or down position. Thus, the temperature of a weighted heating iron, for example, residing in the cavity of the cradle can be sensed by the thermocouple. The base includes support for a visual read-out display of the temperature sensed and circuit means interconnects the display with the thermocouple. The thermocouple is protected from damage by the weighted object in the cradle by providing a resilient mount for the thermocouple within the post.

  • Patent number: 5691509
Abstract: The invention covers a flexible cable termination and a connector for securing the flexible cable termination to surface contact pads on a rigid substrate. The termination of the flexible cable includes flattened, axially extending conductor pads. Each of the conductor pads includes at least two nodes or pressure point contacts extending normal to the pad axis. The connection system includes threaded registration pins on the substrate and registration holes adjacent the conductor pads of the cable through which the pins extend so as to permit the conductor pads of the cable to be aligned with the contact pads on the substrate when the former is disposed atop the latter. The pins also hold a rubber compression pad and a pressure applying spring member atop the cable conductor pads, and bolts thread down over the pins to hold the components in place.

  • Patent number: 5080806
Abstract: A decontamination treatment of process water is disclosed herein originating from electroplating/metal finishing and etching operations wherein the process water is loaded with heavy metal ions. The process combines predetermined quantities of alkali/acid solutions together with a quantity of Sodium Humate so as to produce a disposable sludge which is environmentally safe and poses the least risk for leeching of harmful metals from the resultant sludge. Decontaminated waste water solution is also produced via a sand filter which is further processed to remove ionic, atomic or molecular metal suspended in the waste water solution. This latter process includes a microcon filter having electronic pressure sensors and feedback controls for returning contaminated waste water back into the system via automatic back wash. An electromagnetic ionic filter removes additional ionic, atomic or the like metal contaminants.
