  • Patent number: 5028322
Abstract: A strainer assembly for use in a filter having a granular media bed supported above a floor. The strainer assembly includes a low profile body member having a two tiered construction, the bottom tier having a larger diameter than the upper tier. Each of the tiers has a series of substantially equally spaced apart, generally vertical, slot openings formed therein. The total area of the openings in the bottom tier is from about 3 to 15 times greater than the total area of the openings in the upper tier. An improved distribution/fastening means is provided for directing fluid through the body member and for retaining the body member in position above the floor.

  • Patent number: 4889624
Abstract: A lamella separation apparatus comprising a liquid receiving tank having a lamella plate assembly supported therein defining flow passages between adjacent lamella plates. The lamella plates have a generally rectangular inclined settling surface and rear surface and a leg portion extending perpendicular to an upper portion of the rear surface along the entire width thereof. The leg portion extends between adjacent lamella plates in closing relationship to the corresponding flow passage therebetween. A plurality of horizontally spaced orifices extend through the lamella plates at an elevation a small distance below the elevation of the leg portion in communication with a corresponding flow passage for directed clarified liquid therethrough into an area above the lamella plate assembly. The orifices are sized so as to create a small pressure drop across the orifices to ensure substantially equal flow distribution through the flow passages.

  • Patent number: 4863498
Abstract: A deaerator device for separating non-condensable gases from condensate. The device includes an upper deaerator stage means comprising a spray nozzle assembly which directs liquid particles under high velocity into a hood located thereabove. In the hood, the particles are raised to their saturation temperature by steam introduced into the device wherein the non-condensable gases are liberated from the condensate and vented to the atmosphere. Located below the nozzles is tray for receiving the condensed water. The tray has a plurality of openings which directs condensate into a lower deaerator stage consisting of a packing which removes substantially all of the non-condensable gases left in the condensate.

  • Patent number: 4392955
Abstract: In liquid sedimentation and clarification apparatus recirculation of previously settled solids is controlled without affecting the volume or rate of flow of incoming untreated liquid. A throttle plate is placed above an updraft tube in the liquid flow path. Movement of the throttle plate toward or away from the end of the updraft tube alters the quantity of settled solids that are mixed with the incoming liquid during the treatment process.
