    Abstract: Analyte sensors and associated insertion devices are disclosed herein. According to some embodiments, the present technology includes a sensor applicator comprising a housing having an insertion end configured to be positioned at or adjacent a user's skin at an insertion site, a needle carried by the housing and configured for insertion into the user's skin at the insertion site, and a sensor assembly comprising a base and a sensing portion extending from the base. The base is supported by the housing in a first position during insertion of the needle and configured to rotate into a second, laid-flat position on the user's skin after removal of the housing from the insertion site.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for oxygenating and controlling the temperature of blood in an extracorporeal circuit. The apparatus has an inlet and an outlet that is located radially outward from the inlet in order to define a flowpath through the apparatus. The apparatus comprises: a core that is substantially centrally located in the apparatus and to which blood from a patient can be supplied through the inlet; a heat exchanger comprising a plurality of heat transfer elements that are arranged around the core and between which blood from the core can move radially outward; and an oxygenator comprising a plurality of gas exchange elements that are arranged around the heat exchanger and between which blood from the heat exchanger can move radially outward before exiting the apparatus through the outlet.

    Abstract: An arterial line blood filter for use in extracorporeal blood circuits during heart bypass surgery has, among other components, a housing with a cap portion, a base portion, and a generally cylindrical wall portion. The blood filter has a filter element disposed within the housing. An inlet is positioned at an upward angle with respect to the housing and includes an opening in the generally cylindrical wall portion in fluid communication with the inlet chamber. In some embodiments the position of the inlet limits the pressure drop and prime volume of the filter. According to one embodiment, the cap portion has an upwardly sloping inner surface and there is a vent in the cap portion. The inner surface of the cap portion can have a projection proximate the vent configured to limit immobilization of gaseous microemboli within the inlet chamber.
