  • Patent number: 5501832
Abstract: The invention provides a method of moulding a reinforced structure for use in a subsequent moulding operation to form a moulded article, comprising the steps of heating a fibrous mat (10) formed from fibres held together by a thermoformable binder while between the parts (11) and (12) of a mould tool which parts (11) and (12) are pre-coated with a release agents; bringing the parts of the mould together using a vacuum with the mat (10) between them; allowing the mould tool, with the fibrous mat (10) therein to cool and removing the moulded reinforcing structure thus formed from the mould tool. The parts (11) and (12) of the mould are brought together by placing them in a vacuum forming table (14) and then evacuating the volume enclosed between the sheet (10) spanning the frame (15) and the lower part (13) of the table (14) when both are brought into contact.

  • Patent number: 5000902
Abstract: A method for moulding an article wherein mould parts are adapted to be moved together under vacuum to cause moulding material to be evenly distributed around a reinforcement structure. A finish coating of paint or the like is applied to the article during the moulding process by coating the mould interior and partially curing the coated material before introduction of the moulding material. Coating of the interior of one or both mould parts may be effected to produce articles coated on one or both surfaces. If desired, a plurality of coating and partial curing steps may be employed.

  • Patent number: 4767308
Abstract: A two-part mould for moulding an article has the mould parts adapted to be moved together under vacuum to cause moulding material to be evenly distributed around a reinforcement structure. Sealing means for sealing the mold cavity against ambient atmosphere, comprises a primary seal operative during the movement of the mould parts, the action of the primary seal being assisted by a secondary seal which becomes effective when the mould parts reach the final closed position. A collection chamber is formed in one of the mould parts for collection of surplus resin through pinch-off means, including a flexible part, which closes off flow of resin into the collection chamber in the closed position, of the mould parts. The collection chamber is preferably located to permit drainage of resin back to the mould cavity until the pinch-off means becomes effective.

  • Patent number: 4349599
Abstract: A textile, such as a tape, having an adhesive coating on one or both of its surfaces is used to prevent movement of reinforcing material, usually glass fiber, from a position in a mould during the manufacture of plastics articles. The adhesive is preferably permanently tacky and is selected to be compatible with plastics material used to form the articles since the textile is incorporated in the finished plastics articles. An adhesive based on an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer pressure-sensitive adhesive is disclosed as being suitable for use with an unsaturated polyester.
