  • Publication number: 20240117786
Abstract: A fluid flow powered system for generating electrical power including a rotating turbine blade assembly comprising an outer rim, a tension airfoil central hub assembly, tension elements extending between the outer rim and the tension airfoil central hub assembly, and a plurality of turbine blades secured to the tension elements. A rim engagement wheel is rotationally driven by the outer rim. Rotation of the wheel drives an electric power generator. The turbine blade assembly can be rotationally driven by at least one of wind and water. The wheel, independently or in conjunction with additional wheels can provide at least one of axial support and radial support to the turbine blade assembly during operation.

  • Patent number: 11021243
Abstract: A tension airfoil assembly includes an outer rim located concentrically with a hub supported by a plurality of spokes, each spoke extending therebetween. A series of airfoils, each airfoil having an aerodynamically lifting shape extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge. Each airfoil of the series of airfoils is assembled to the tension airfoil assembly by coupling an area of the airfoil proximate the leading edge to a leading edge spoke and an area of the airfoil proximate the trailing edge to a trailing edge spoke. The airfoils are arranged having a gap provided between the trailing edge of each forward located airfoil and the leading edge of each trailing located airfoil. The tension airfoil assembly can be employed as a propulsion and/or lifting device integrated into a vehicle, such as an airplane, a helicopter, a tandem rotor helicopter, etc.

  • Patent number: 10443569
Abstract: A wind operated electrical power generating system integrating a wind powered turbine with an electric power generator. The generator is capable of outputting a power level that is greater than a power level obtained by the turbine when the system is operating at an operational rotational speed. The power output is optimized by increasing a load upon the generator. The optimization is based upon the rotational speed of the elements of the system. The system adjusts the load applied to the generator as the system meets each of a plurality of predetermined rotational speeds. The load adjustment can be provided by manual or automated intervention. The system can integrated the generator directly within the turbine or remotely. In a remote configuration, a hydraulic pump obtains power from the turbine and transfers the power by flow of hydraulic fluid to a hydraulic motor. The hydraulic motor drives the generator.

  • Patent number: 10435145
Abstract: A tension lifting wing wheel assembly includes a peripheral rim located concentrically with a hub supported by a plurality of spokes, each spoke extending therebetween. A series of wings, each wing having an aerodynamically lifting shape extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge. Each wing of the series of wings is assembled to the tension wheel assembly by coupling an area of the wing proximate the leading edge to a leading edge spoke and an area of the wing proximate the trailing edge to a trailing edge spoke. The wings are arranged having a gap provided between the wing trailing edge of each forward located wing and the wing leading edge of each trailing located wing. The tension lifting wing wheel assembly can be employed as a propulsion and/or lifting device integrated into a vehicle, such as an airplane, a helicopter, a tandem rotor helicopter, etc.

  • Patent number: 8668455
Abstract: A wind driven energy source is providing integrated a series of radially extending masts from a central hub. The masts are supported by a series of cables. A mast-to-mast tension cable spans between distal ends of adjacent masts. A mast-to-axle tension cable spans between the distal end of each mast and each axial end of the central hub. A turbine blade is supported by each mast. The turbine blades can be of a rigid or pliant material. An angle of incidence of the rigid blades can be adjusted by rotating the mast. An angle of incidence of the pliant blades can be adjusted by applying tension to a blade control cable. Pliant blades can be retracted into the mast via a retracting mechanism to reduce the exposed surface area when subjected to excessive wind speeds.
