  • Patent number: 4507736
Abstract: A gear shift control system for a motor vehicle in which a micro-computer is fed signals representative of the output speed of the transmission and the selected gear position. This information allows the computer to recognize when the engine speed is within an optimum range. A latching mechanism associated with the gear shift lever is controlled by the computer to lock the gear shift lever. Such an arrangement avoids accidental improper shifting on the part of the operator to prevent engine damage due to over or under speeding of the engine, particularly in arrangements where the respective gear positions of the gear shift lever are arranged in line, as opposed to the conventional H configuration. The computer may be stored with several programs that can be selectively activated to vary the locking point of the gear shift lever within the optimum speed range, depending on the intent to operate the vehicle in a "speedy" or "economical" mode, for example.

  • Patent number: 4494571
Abstract: An electropneumatic door valve for use with pneumatic door operations as are used on mass transit vehicles. The single valve housing arrangement provides either a through passageway or a throttled passageway for pressurizing the opening or closing chamber of a pneumatic door drive unit. Provisions are also made to allow automatic reversal should the door become wedged, and to allow manual override should that operation be desired. Electrical pulses initiated by the vehicle operator trigger one of two solenoid valves which direct one of two operating pistons into a position to dictate which passageway will be established. Three vent passageways are provided to exhaust compressed air from any of the chambers which had been charged during a previous door operation.

  • Patent number: 4380177
Abstract: A gear shift mechanism for providing a vehicle operator with a "feel" of a desired gear change being completed in a power operated gear unit. A drum disc connected to the gear shift lever is formed with a recess in which a locking pin of an actuator valve is engageable when the gear shift lever is operated to a shift position, thereby limiting further movement of the gear shift lever. A sensor device associated with the gear unit detects completion of the gear change and operates the actuator to retract the locking pin from the recess to allow further movement of the gear shift lever, as an indication to the vehicle operator that the intended gear change is completed, so that he may engage the clutch and apply gas.

  • Patent number: 4369696
Abstract: A vehicle door control valve device having a pair of two-way, electro-magnetically operated, pneumatic valve members arranged so that one valve member is operated to a first position, in which compressed air is supplied to one side of a pneumatic actuator that operates the door, while concurrently, a second identical valve member is operated to an opposite position, in which compressed air is exhausted from the other side of the pneumatic door actuator. The relative positions of the respective valve members may be alternately switched to effect door opening and closing. Operation of the valve members is electro-magnetically controlled by primary and secondary coils arranged to cooperate with a permanent magnet, so that only momentary energization of the coils is necessary to effect switching of the valve members. The arrangement is such that in the case of an emergency, opposite sides of the pneumatic door actuator are both de-pressurized to permit manual door operation.

  • Patent number: 4005911
Abstract: An antiskid brake control system for an automotive vehicle of the type having for each wheel signalling apparatus to scan and sense its dynamic behavior characteristics during braking and electronic evaluation circuitry whose output signals operate electro-pneumatic modulator valves to override the operator controlled fluid brake pressure at a respective wheel when the signalling apparatus indicates an impending wheel skid. The invention features a pulse generator for each wheel of a pair of wheels that is cross-connected with the evaluation circuitry of the opposite wheel so as to effect intermittent operation of one wheel modulator valve only when the evaluation circuit of the other wheel indicates an impending wheel skid in the absence of an impending wheel skid condition of the one wheel.
