  • Publication number: 20240050024
Abstract: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence (UI) are common, often distressing conditions, where, at present, physical non-surgical devices are fitted by best guess or trial-and-error with devices offered in a range of standard designs and sizes. However, each user is unique and accordingly methods, systems and devices providing a personal pelvic health characterization and provisioning approach are outlined that factor user specific anatomy and physiology, user lifestyle, user experiences and automated assessments into provisioning custom vaginal therapeutic devices. Further, user specific anatomy and physiology should be obtained in a reproducible manner with devices and systems that remove measurement artifacts, errors, bias etc. whilst providing the patient with an improved experience and the medical personnel with ergonomic, efficient, and easy to use systems exploiting combinations of dedicated multi-patient measurement equipment with user specific consumable items for cleanliness etc.

  • Publication number: 20220225961
Abstract: An imaging probe adapter for measuring the properties of a lumen like the vaginal canal, the rectum, or anal sphincter. The device has an adapter body with a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end of the adapter body may be formed into an insertion tip capable of easy insertion into the appropriate lumenal structure. An inflatable pressure chamber covers the distal end of the adapter body. A baseplate formed on the proximal end of the adapter body incorporates fluid channels for inflating the pressure chamber and a probe channel that receives an ultrasound probe or other suitable imaging probe. The device is used to measure and model lumenal biomechanical properties such as stiffness, compliance, elastic versus viscous contributions to overall stiffness, and total displacement.

  • Patent number: 9510766
Abstract: A device and method for measuring the structural integrity and structural health of the female pelvic floor, or other lumenal organ, is disclosed. Said device comprises an insertable probe with a pressure chamber capable of distending the walls of said lumenal organ. The invention also comprises means for positioning the pressure chamber and adjusting its location along the lumen. Said device also comprises means for changing and recording the volume and pressure of a balloon which is part of the pressure chamber, and means for determining and recording the location of the walls of the balloon. Said device also comprises a means for integrating information obtained to determine important biomechanical information, such as stress-strain curves, which a medical clinician can use for diagnostic purposes. Said method comprises the insertion of said probe, the expansion and contraction of the pressure chamber under desired condition, and means for analyzing obtained data for increased usefulness to the clinician.
