  • Publication number: 20090241287
Abstract: A door closer comprising: (a) a housing for fitting into a door, the housing having a mounting plate with an opening adjacent to a central bore of the housing; (b) a tension member extending longitudinally within the central bore of the housing and extending outwardly of the housing through the opening to define an end thereof for fitting to a door frame; (c) a movable body within the housing and adapted for longitudinal movement within the central bore, the movable body being connected to the tension member; (d) a spring within the housing and biasing the movable body in a first direction away from the mounting plate so as to urge the tension member inwardly of the housing in a door closing motion; and (e) a hydraulic damping assembly for damping the longitudinal movement of the movable body at least in the first direction, the hydraulic damping assembly being disposed within the central bore of the housing, wherein the hydraulic damping assembly comprises a piston, coupled to the housing by a piston shaf

  • Patent number: 6141911
Abstract: A pet door having a pair of bolt assemblies with bolts (28) mounted in a frame having an aperture (6) in which a door flap (18) is pivotably mounted. The bolts (28) are extendable into the door flap (18) and retractable into the frame (2) to lock and unlock the pet door, respectively. A bolt mechanism controller (50) is arranged to unlock the pet door on detection of a pet carrying the correct key transmitter (66) and to relock the pet door a user adjustable predetermined time after unlocking the pet door. This provides a pet door which can be used to automatically permit entry to a selected pet while using a robust bolt (28) of especial application to larger pet doors such as dog doors.

  • Patent number: 5701702
Abstract: A pet door has a frame defining an access aperture with a pivotally-hung aperture-closing flap therein and with a catch to secure the flap against opening in one direction. The catch is supported on a collapsible support, and a pivoted lever is normally positioned to prevent collapse of the support whereby the catch is maintained in a flap-securing position. The lever bears a freely-rotatable elongate magnet which is co-operable with a key magnet on a pet collar, and when the key magnet is presented to the pet door, it attracts the magnet on the lever causing the lever to pivot to a position giving the support freedom to collapse and permitting the catch to be moved from the flap-securing position.
