Publication number: 20040165391Abstract: Linear lamp energy output is tuned by adjusting the reflectivity of reflectors or shade members used to direct, focus and filter energy output of a linear bulb. Reflectivity is reduced in areas of the reflector contributing to high irradiance levels in a target area allowing, for example, overall equalization of irradiance across the target area. An outer surface of the linear bulb may have a modified diameter, light transmission reducing surface treatment or an added sleeve to linear bulb areas contributing to irradiance levels in specific locations in the target area that are higher than desired. Alternatively and or additionally, a lens or shade member having a graduated convergence, reflectivity and or transmisivity may be used.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2003Publication date: August 26, 2004Applicant: AETEK UV SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Allen P. Patent number: 5819649Abstract: A system for printing an image onto a target area of a moving substrate with an actuatable print head having an actuation delay time, the substrate movable at a variable speed to a print position relative to the print head. The system includes a trigger signal generator for generating a trigger signal when the target area of the substrate is a specified distance from the print position so selected that a time required to move the target area of the substrate the specified distance to the print position is not less than the actuation delay time of the print head. Encoder signals based on movement of the substrate decrement a reference count during a delay time to generate a delay count, wherein the delay time corresponds to the actuation delay time of the print head. The encoder signals decrement the delay count in response to the generation of a trigger signal, wherein a print signal is generated when the delay count is decremented to zero.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1997Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Lawrence B. Patent number: 4701678Abstract: An electron gun system providing beam convergence is disclosed for use in a color CRT display system. Means including cathode means develop three electron beams, two of which are off-axis with respect to a center axis of the gun. A plurality of electrodes means provide shaping and focusing, and assisting in the converging of the beams at the tube screen. Means are provided for developing and applying to the electrode means a pattern of potentials which form field components in the gaps therebetween; at least one of the electrode means receives a varying dynamic focusing voltage for dynamically focusing the beams as they are deflected across the screen. At least selected ones of the plurality of electrodes means for the off-axis beams are so structured and arranged as to cause a plurality of the field components to be asymmetric and effective to converge the off-axis beams. The strengths of the asymmetric field components vary in response to changes in the dynamic focus voltage.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1986Date of Patent: October 20, 1987Assignee: Zenith Electronics CorporationInventors: Allen P. Patent number: 4469987Abstract: A high-resolution color television electron gun is disclosed for use in a high-brightness cathode ray tube having an unsegmented cathodoluminescent screen for producing a monochromatic image. The electron gun provides three horizontally oriented in-line beams lying in the deflection plane of the tube and converged into substantial coincidence on the screen. The diameters of the beams and hence resolution of the monochromatic image is inversely related to the magnitude of the beam currents. The gun includes associated cathode means and grid electrode means for forming each of the beams. A main focus lens for each of the beams includes at least a focusing electrode and an accelerating electrode for receiving a predetermined pattern of applied voltages for establishing beam-forming and accelerating electrostatic fields. The magnitude of the applied voltages are such that the beam currents are relatively low providing for small beam diameters and consequent high resolution.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1981Date of Patent: September 4, 1984Assignee: Zenith Electronics CorporationInventors: Allen P. Patent number: 4288718Abstract: A television cathode ray picture tube has at least one electron gun for generating at least one electron beam for projecting at least one beam spot on the picture imaging screen of the tube. The gun has a plurality of differently electrically charged electrodes having facing sections comprising juxtaposed walls with coaxially aligned openings therethrough for passage of said beam, said walls defining at least one gap in which is established a beam-focusing electrostatic field. The tube is subject to influences which introduce an undesired distortion of the beam spot to the detriment of the quality of the image projected on the screen. The electron gun is characterized by at least one of the electrode walls being mechanically deformed in the perimeter of its opening to cause the field to be azimuthally asymmetrical about the opening. The mechanical deformation is effective to act on the beam in a sense tending to at least partially compensate for the undesired distortion of the beam spot.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1979Date of Patent: September 8, 1981Assignee: Zenith Radio CorporationInventors: Allen P. Patent number: 4253041Abstract: An electron gun for a television cathode ray tube is disclosed having cathode means and grid means for producing a beam of electrons. A low-aberration, low-magnification main focus lens means comprising at least three electrodes receives a predetermined pattern of applied voltages to establish a single, continuous electrostatic field having an axial potential distribution which, at all times during tube operation, decreases smoothly and monotonically from a relatively intermediate axial potential to a relatively low-intermediate axial potential spatially located at a lens intermediate position. The axial potential then increases smoothly, directly and monotonically from the relatively low intermediate axial potential to a relatively high axial potential. The gun is characterized by the synthesizing of the relatively low-intermediate axial potential by electrode means comprising a composite electrode made up of an odd-number plurality of apertured elements separated by gaps.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1979Date of Patent: February 24, 1981Assignee: Zenith Radio CorporationInventors: Allen P.
