  • Publication number: 20170142735
Abstract: In accordance with disclosed embodiments, a first wireless communication device operating in a first frequency band receives channel information from a second wireless communication device operating in a second frequency band adjacent to the first frequency band. The first wireless communication device generates a channel quality report indicating particular sub-band(s) in the first frequency band that cause interference in one or more channels in the second frequency band when used by the first wireless communication device for transmission. The channel quality report is sent by the first wireless communication device to a base station, which subsequently provides a sub-band assignment assigning one or more sub-bands within the first frequency band that avoid the one or more particular sub-bands indicated by the channel quality report. The first wireless communication device transmits the information using the one or more assigned sub-bands.

  • Patent number: 9590764
Abstract: System and methods for using channel quality reports to reduce inter-band interference are disclosed. Channel information is received at a first wireless communication device from a second wireless communication device. The first wireless device is operating in a first frequency range, and the second wireless device is operating in a second frequency range. The first frequency range is adjacent to the second frequency range. A channel quality report is generated at the first wireless communication device. The channel quality report indicates that particular sub-bands in the first frequency range have low channel quality. The particular sub-bands are selected using the channel information.

  • Patent number: 9585097
Abstract: In order to reduce the power consumption after a transmitting electronic device in a wireless network has been detected, a receiving electronic device calculates transmit times of subsequent beacons from the transmitting electronic device based on a clock drift of the transmitting electronic device and the beacon period. Then, the receiving electronic device receives the subsequent beacon by opening scan windows that encompass the calculated transmit times. However, because the transmit times are more predictable after the transmitting electronic device has been detected (and the clock drift of the transmitting electronic device is known to the receiving electronic device), the receiving electronic device can reduce the width of the scan windows. In addition, the transmitting electronic device can further reduce the power consumption by increasing the beacon period.

  • Patent number: 9483429
Abstract: A novel and useful apparatus for and method of a unified IO controller well suited for use in integrated wireless devices incorporating multiple functions. The unified IO controller is operative to provide a single host interface PHY/MAC that is shared among all functions on the controller. The invention provides an IO protocol handler comprising common and unified logic that provides IO access to any function on the device. The common and unified IO PHY interface logic is shared between multiple functions within the same device (e.g., WLAN, GPS, Bluetooth, etc.). This implementation provides optimized hardware partitioning in which common SDIO logic serves multiple functions thereby eliminating the need to provide a protocol handler for each function, reducing pin count, power consumption and die size, since the SDIO protocol handling is implemented in a shared module.

  • Publication number: 20150373551
Abstract: An apparatus and method for transmitting audio with coexisting wireless networks. In one embodiment, a wireless device includes a first wireless network controller and a second wireless network controller. The first wireless network controller and the second wireless network controller are configured to access a wireless communication medium via a shared antenna, and to transmit, via the wireless communication medium, data received from a host device. The second wireless network controller includes an audio stream detector configured to determine, based on the contents of the data received from the host device, whether an audio stream is to be transmitted via the second wireless network controller, and to request that the second wireless network controller be given access priority to the antenna over the first wireless network controller, based on a determination that the audio stream is to be transmitted via the second wireless network controller.

  • Publication number: 20150327001
Abstract: A method and system for an improved communication mode for Bluetooth wireless devices is disclosed. Packets used in the improved communication mode are encoded using a convolutional encoder and transmitted with a particular modulation index such that the improved communication mode provides an improved link margin with respect to a communication mode specified in a Bluetooth wireless communication protocol. In this regard, the improved communication mode allows Bluetooth wireless devices to continue to communicate when a communication link between the Bluetooth wireless devices degrades, whereas otherwise the connection would be dropped. Furthermore, the Bluetooth wireless devices seamlessly switch between the improved communication mode and other Bluetooth communication modes without renegotiating the connection.

  • Patent number: 9124463
Abstract: A device with an autonomous sleep characteristic, which is in communication with a host, is described. The device includes one or more communication subsystems. Each communication subsystem maintains a sleep activity indicator that indicates whether a corresponding communication subsystem is allowed to go to sleep. Each communication subsystem can autonomously enter a sleep state, when its sleep activity indicator indicates that the corresponding communication subsystem is, in fact, allowed to go to sleep. The device also includes a controller. The controller has a block memory which stores data written to the device from the host. The controller further includes a sleep state indicator that indicates a sleep state of each communication subsystem.

  • Patent number: 8787403
Abstract: A system includes a controller that provides an output control signal based on two or more control inputs. The controller determines an indication of radio frequency (RF) bandwidth availability based on a given one of the control inputs. The output control signal can correspond to the RF bandwidth availability and status of at least one other wireless condition affecting RF bandwidth. An audio quality adjuster can adjust quality parameters used to encode an audio stream for one or more audio sinks based on the output control signal.

  • Patent number: 8774718
Abstract: A communication unit has BT and LTE transceivers, and a BT processor. The BT processor sets up a BT connection over the BT transceiver; performs a legacy command to synchronize BT transactions over the BT connection based on LTE frames in a LTE connection over the LTE transceiver, so that a BT network clock is synchronized to LTE frames. The legacy command is a role switch command that is used to set a BT alignment time of a switch point between Bluetooth master/slave packets to a LTE switch between transmit and receive; and is specified in a BT Core Specification 4.0 or earlier. The processor can determine an expected alignment time to align BT master and slave packets to transmit and receive in the LTE frame based on a start time of the LTE frame, and can indicate the expected alignment time in the legacy command.

  • Patent number: 8676248
Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a processing unit with first chip and second chip that operates in parallel with the first chip. The first chip transmits/receives data according to LTE. The second chip transmits/receives data over a WLAN. The processing unit determines access points (AP) through which data can be transmitted/received by the second chip over the WLAN; and identifies an optimal AP, based on factors including a determination, for each AP, of whether transmission/reception of data by the first chip according to the LTE standard, simultaneous to transmission/reception of data over the WLAN by the second chip, would decrease the overall throughput of the first and second chips. When the second chip is previously connected to the WLAN through any AP other than the optimal AP, the second chip is disconnected from the other AP, and it is connected to the WLAN through the optimal AP.

  • Patent number: 8494580
Abstract: A method is provided of coordinating adjacent first and second wireless networks, comprising: receiving a signal at a controller on a wireless device, the received signal indicating an intended transmission state of the first network during a future time slot, the intended transmission state indicating whether or not the first network intends to transmit first data during the future time slot; transmitting second data in the second network to a remote device if the intended transmission state indicates that the first network does not intend to transmit first data during the future time slot; and controlling transmission of the second data in the second network such that the transmission ends during the future time slot in which the first network does not intend to transmit first data, with sufficient time remaining to allow the second network to receive a reply transmission from the remote device.
