Abstract: An apparatus for guiding and changing the direction of a moving web without contacting the web itself, and for preventing contact at the apparatus entry and, optionally exit points. The apparatus includes a reduced pressure box having a source of reduced pressure connected thereto, a convex web guide support, a portion of which is partially contained within the reduced pressure box, and an entry baffle having a top surface. The angle between tangents through reference points on the web guide support and the distance between the web guide support and the entry baffle are adjusted to prevent contact between the web and the reduced pressure box interior and entry baffle. The angle between tangents through reference points on the web guide support and the distance between the web guide support and the exit baffle may also be adjusted to prevent contact between the web and the reduced pressure box interior and exit baffle.

Abstract: In a device for the guiding of a moving web (1) that has on its inner side a contact-sensitive surface (3), the web (1) separates two zones (13, 14) in the guide region from one another. The outer zone (14) is formed by a housing (7) connected with a reduced pressure source (P). The inner zone (13) is connected with the atmosphere. To seal the housing (7) against the atmosphere, sealing elements (16, 17) extending across the width of the web at the beginning and end zones of the guide region interact with the outer side of the web (1). As a result of the pressure difference, a gap is formed between the guide surfaces (8, 9) of a support (6) and the web, so that the contact-sensitive surface is not supported in the guide region.

Abstract: A device for the application of at least one cast layer (7) on a moving sheet-shaped substrate (4) has a rotating casting roll (1) which guides the substrate. A pouring vessel (8) is arranged adjacent to the casting roll while leaving a casting gap (13). A suction device with a housing (15) has a low pressure chamber (16) extending from the gap (13) to a partition (25) and has a vacuum chamber (17) extending from the partition (25) to an end wall (26). Partition (25) and/or end wall (26) can be adjusted in circumferential direction. The low pressure chamber (16) and the vacuum chamber (17) are connected with each other by means of a bypass (51). In this way, even under varying operating conditions, a high constancy of the pressure in the low pressure chamber (16) can be attained.
