  • Publication number: 20170042171
Abstract: A method of handling mangoes includes exposing the mangoes to an atmosphere that contains one or more cyclopropene compounds, and containing the mangoes in a modified-atmosphere package. The method provides an unexpected improvement in maintaining the optimum ripeness of the mangoes over what would be expected based upon the effects observed when either exposing the mangoes to the cyclopropene compound or containing the mangoes in a modified-atmosphere package in the absence of the other.

  • Patent number: 9265268
Abstract: There is provided a method of storing bananas comprising the steps of (a) exposing said bananas to an atmosphere that contains one or more ethylene-active compound, and (b) after said step (a), exposing said bananas to an atmosphere that contains one or more cyclopropene compound while said bananas have color stage 2 to 6 on the seven-stage scale, wherein said bananas are kept in a modified-atmosphere package for a time period that includes at least a time interval that lasts for 1 hour, wherein said time interval begins between the conclusion of said step (b) and 72 hours from the conclusion of said step (b), and wherein said modified-atmosphere package is constructed so that the transmission rate of carbon dioxide for the entire package (PCT) is from 2,400 to 120,000 cubic centimeters per day per kilogram of bananas.

  • Publication number: 20140066310
Abstract: This invention relates to the use of an ethylene synthesis or perception inhibitor for treating stressed or unstressed banana plant or plant parts in the field prior to harvest. Because the pre-mature ripening is triggered by ethylene produced by the plant, such inhibitor can be sprayed or gassed on the fruit while it is in the plantation (on the tree) to protect and avoid the pre-mature ripening of fruit left on for the full growth period of 12-14 weeks (instead of 11 weeks or less). The invention, therefore, enables the banana growers to leave the fruit on the tree for the full growth period (even under certain stress), thereby gaining a yield benefit without the problem of pre-mature ripening in transit.
