  • Patent number: 7507047
Abstract: A finger wipe that fits onto one or two human fingers. The finger wipe can be used as a substitute for cotton balls, swabs, and/or gauzes, or as an oral cleaning device. The finger wipe includes at least one reservoir that contains a composition. The composition may be a liquid or a solid. For example, in one embodiment, the composition may comprise a cleaning solution, a pharmaceutical, or a skin-conditioning agent. The reservoir is constructed such that the reservoir can be ruptured. For instance, in one embodiment, the reservoir may be ruptured by squeezing two fingers together. In this manner, the composition is released when desired for use in conjunction with the finger wipe.

  • Patent number: 7098040
Abstract: A diagnostic test unit is provided. The test unit comprises a stem having a first end and a second end, the stem defining at least one flow channel extending between the first end and the second end. A swab is disposed at the first end of the stem, the swab being configured to collect a test sample derived from a biological source that is suspected of containing an analyte. The test unit also comprises a fluid chamber configured to contain a fluid, wherein the fluid chamber is in fluid communication with the swab via the flow channel. The test unit also comprises a rupturable seal that inhibits leakage of the fluid from the fluid chamber prior to use, and an assay for detecting the presence or absence of the analyte. The assay is in fluid communication with the swab, the flow channel, and the fluid chamber.

  • Patent number: 6991898
Abstract: A self contained diagnostic test device is provided for use in the collection and detection of a biological specimen or the like. The device comprises a tubular swab and reagent dispensing cap component for receiving specimens. The reagent dispensing cap component includes barrel, reagent chamber, and results window subcomponents, and delivers one or more selected reagents to a specimen testing chamber for contacting the collected specimen, upon the rotation of the reagent chamber component.

  • Patent number: 6936038
Abstract: An absorbent article is disclosed having an absorbent with first and second longitudinal sides. A liquid permeable wrapper encloses the absorbent. The wrapper extending laterally outward from each of the first and second longitudinal sides a distance of at least about 10 millimeters to form a pair of fringes. The pair of fringes are capable of being biased upward to form a pair of upstanding side walls when the absorbent article is placed in an undergarment. The upstanding side walls form a pair of reservoirs located adjacent to the absorbent. The reservoirs are capable of retaining body fluid that has run off of the wrapper until the body fluid can be absorbed by the absorbent.

  • Patent number: 6921393
Abstract: An absorbent article is disclosed having a liquid permeable bodyside cover, a liquid permeable garment side liner and an absorbent core enclosed by the cover and the liner. The absorbent article also has a pair of fringes formed by joining the cover to the liner. The pair of fringes extend laterally outward from the absorbent core and are capable of being biased upward to form a pair of upstanding side walls when placed in an undergarment. The pair of upstanding side walls form a pair of reservoirs located adjacent to the absorbent core. The pair of reservoirs are capable of retaining body fluid that has run off of the cover until the body fluid can be absorbed by the absorbent core.

  • Publication number: 20030163104
Abstract: A method is disclosed of securing an absorbent article to a primary absorbent undergarment and positioning the undergarment around a wearer's torso. The undergarment has a liquid permeable bodyside cover, a liquid-impermeable baffle and an absorbent positioned therebetween. The undergarment also has a waist opening, a pair of leg openings and a crotch portion formed between the pair of leg openings. The method includes the steps of forming an absorbent article having a liquid permeable bodyside cover, a liquid permeable garment side liner and an absorbent core enclosed by the cover. The absorbent article has a pair of fringes formed by joining the cover to the liner. The primary absorbent undergarment is positioned onto a wearer's legs. The absorbent article is then placed over at least a portion of the crotch portion of the undergarment and is pressed there against so as to secure the attachment means.
