  • Publication number: 20100260327
Abstract: A system and method for providing information local to a called party located in a different geographic location may include storing information and telephone number identifiers as associated with remote geographic locations. In response to a telephone number being dialed, a determination may be made as to whether a portion of the dialed telephone number matches a stored telephone number identifier. If a portion of the dialed telephone number matches a stored telephone number identifier, at least a portion of the information associated with the matched telephone number identifier may be presented to a user. Otherwise, information associated with a portion of the dialed telephone number that identifies a geographic location from a communications network may be requested and presented to the user.

  • Publication number: 20100246787
Abstract: A system and method for distributing remote location information to callers who place calls to the remote locations may include storing information at a central computing system. The information may be associated with locations in multiple different time zones and include telephone number identifiers and local times associated with the different respective telephone number identifiers. The information may be distributed to communications network nodes in different time zones. Telephone calls may be processed from callers local to the communications network nodes. In response to receiving a call request at a communications network node from a local caller, a determination by the communications network node using a portion of a called telephone number may be made to determine current time local to the called telephone. The current time local may be communicated to the caller prior to connecting the call with a communications device associated with the called telephone number.

  • Publication number: 20100099376
Abstract: A system and method for registering the contact information of mobile devices with a service 911 service is presented. In one embodiment, a mobile switching center receives the contact information of a mobile device. If the mobile switching center determines that the mobile device is not located within a particular wireless sub-network, such as, but not limited to, a wireless sub-network associated with an area code registered to the mobile device, the mobile switching center generates a reverse 911 registration text message and transmits the reverse 911 registration text message to the mobile device. A user of the mobile device may then transmit the reverse 911 registration text message to a local reverse 911 database to have the contact information associated with the mobile device added to the local reverse 911 database.

  • Publication number: 20100099374
Abstract: In one embodiment, when a mobile device is powered on, a mobile switching center acquires the contact information, such as, but not limited to, a phone number and the physical location associated with the mobile device. If the mobile device is a new device to the area, the contact information of the mobile device is passed to a reverse 911 database in order for a user of the mobile device to receive local alert messages transmitted by a reverse 911 system.

  • Publication number: 20090163198
Abstract: A system and method for establishing a signal parameter threshold for switching between communications protocols by a multimode handset may include providing cordless telephones of different models. A dropout point at which a communications signal of each of the cordless telephones deteriorates below a predetermined level may be determined. At least one signal parameter of the communications signal at the determined dropout point of each of the cordless telephones may be measured and collected. The signal parameter(s) associated with the cordless telephone having the shortest range at which the associated dropout point may be determined so that a multimode handset may be established with the signal parameter(s) to cause the multimode handset to switch communications protocols in response to the multimode handset crossing a signal parameter threshold level defined by the predetermined signal parameter(s) when communicating with a base unit of a cordless telephone.

  • Publication number: 20090097474
Abstract: A system and method for providing location information to a public safety answering point from a softphone may include receiving, at a network access point, an emergency 911 call from the softphone. The emergency 911 call may be communicated to a public safety answering point. In response to a call connection message being received, an address location of the network access point to which the softphone is in communication in placing the emergency 911 call to the public safety answering point may be communicated in a type II caller ID data packet. The softphone may generate the type II caller ID data packet with the address location in a data field, such as a data field typically used for name information of a caller.

  • Publication number: 20090086932
Abstract: A system and method for providing location information to a public safety answering point may include registering network access points with a gateway. The registration may include address location of each network access point to enable the gateway to look-up and communicate the address location of a registered network access point during an emergency 911 call. The network access points may be WiFi access points. The network access point address location information may be communicated using a type II caller ID data packets after the public safety answering point goes off-hook. By communicating both the access point address information and GPS location information, PSAPs that are configured as E911 Phase I and E911 Phase II may display address information of an emergency 911 caller.

  • Publication number: 20090047924
Abstract: A system and method for providing location information to a public safety answering point may include receiving, at a network access point, an emergency 911 call signal including GPS location information and mobile directory number of a wireless device. The GPS location information and mobile directory information may be communicated to a selective router associated with a public safety access point servicing an area including the network access point. The network access point may be a WiFi access point. The access point address information may be communicated using a type II caller ID data packet after the public safety answering point goes off-hook. By communicating both the access point address information and GPS location information, both PSAPs that are configured as E911 Phase I and E911 Phase II may display address location information of an emergency 911 caller.

  • Publication number: 20080304651
Abstract: A telephone may include a transmitter configured to transmit signals over a network a receiver configured to receive signals from the network a DTMF signal generator configured to generate DTMF signals, a DTMF gain adjustment module, and an amplifier module in communication with the DTMF signal generator and the DTMF gain selection module, where the amplifier module may be configured to amplify the DTMF signals. In one embodiment, the amplifier modules causes the DTMF signals to increase power by 10 dB so that DTMF signals being communicated over a network, possibly multiple packet networks, may be amplified if the DTMF signals are attenuated over the network and a remotely accessed telecommunications system, such as a voicemail system, cannot communicate with the telephone due to the attenuated DTMF signals.

  • Publication number: 20080304652
Abstract: A network interface device may include an I/O unit configured to receive data packets from a packet network. A processing unit may be in communication with the I/O unit and be configured to identify data packets including data representative of DTMF signals, convert the data in the data packets into analog DTMF tone signals, and determine if power of the analog DTMF tone signals is below a threshold value. A digital to analog converter may be in communication with the processing unit and be configured to generate the analog DTMF tone signals based on the data in the data packets. A DTMF amplifier may be in communication with the processing unit and the digital to analog converter, where the processing unit may cause the DTMF amplifier to amplify the power of the analog DTMF tone signals in response to determining that the power of the analog DTMF tone signals are below the threshold value.
