  • Patent number: 4290484
Abstract: A seal receptacle assembly is provided for affixation on a well conduit. The seal receptacle assembly can be provided to permit telescopic contraction and expansion of the well conduit in response to heating, cooling, or pressurization of the well conduit. The seal receptacle assembly includes an inner body sleeve having a lower end connected to the well tool or a conduit member, and an annular sealing element positioned over an outer cylindrical static sealing surface formed on the inner body sleeve. An outer housing having one end connected to the well conduit telescopes over the upper portion of the inner body sleeve. The housing has an inner cylindrical dynamic sealing surface for sealingly and slidably engaging the sealing element.

  • Patent number: 4258787
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for injecting fluid within the bore of a subterranean well. The fluid is transmitted through the bore above the apparatus through parallel fluid flow conduits. A packer assembly communicates to the fluid flow conduits and is carriable on at least one of the conduits. Concentric flow means are defined through the packer assembly for transmission of fluid and communicate with the fluid flow conduits and a production zone within the well. Receptacle means are carried on the packer assembly and communicate between the fluid flow conduits and the concentric flow means. Casing gripping means which are fluid pressure responsive are defined around the packer assembly and are responsive to each of predeterminable pressure increase from fluid flow from the top of the well within one of the fluid flow conduits and within the well below the packer assembly, whereby the gripping means are urged to gripping engagement with the casing to prevent movement of the apparatus in one direction.

  • Patent number: 4234197
Abstract: A seal system is provided with a series of annular seal assemblies separated by relatively rigid spacing members and may be preferably adapted to selectively sealing engage a packer apparatus within a well bore conduit, during the completion or workover of a subterranean oil or gas well. Preferably, each seal assembly comprises four annular seal members in sequence. The outermost seal members are formed from a thermoplastic polymer having a coefficient of expansion greater than that of the rigid spacing members and the conduit, with physical resistance to corrosive chemicals and high temperature and pressure environments. The outermost member has a physical hardness sufficient to withstand extrusion into a gap defined between the rigid spacing member and the conduit by pressure transmitted from the rigid spacing member. One of the inner seal members is a flexible perfluoro polymer with enhanced permanent set and cold flow.

  • Patent number: 4232888
Abstract: A wireline releasable sealing connector is connected in a tubular pipe string together with a packer which is adapted to be set in the well casing. The connector is releasable and connectable without rotation of the pipestring. Tension is transmitted through the connector by a latching collet which is locked against release in response to relative longitudinal movement between an outer body and an inner sealing mandrel, unless, while the connector is in compression, a wireline tool is seated within the connector and engages a connector collet and thereby prevents locking of the latching collet.

  • Patent number: 4188999
Abstract: A well tool assembly is provided which is adapted to be set within a well bore. The assembly comprises a main body having a main passage. Means on the main body are provided for securing the main body within the well bore. An expendable plug is provided and housed within the passage to prevent flow of fluid therethrough. The plug assembly comprises a top sub, a longitudinally extending mandrel and piston means. First disengaging means are provided for selectively securing the top sub to the piston means or the mandrel. Second disengaging means are provided for selectively securing the top sub to the other of the piston means and the mandrel. Seal means are located on the plug assembly for prevention of fluid transmission thereacross.

  • Patent number: 4161216
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for selective mechanically activated latching and fluid activated locking and unlocking of a tubular string within an anchor assembly in a subterranean bore, wherein the anchor assembly has defined thereon co-engaging elements for selectively latching and locking of a tubular string with the anchor assembly. The apparatus comprises a housing which contains second co-engaging means which are complimentarily operational with the first co-engaging means. A longitudinally shiftable sleeve is initially secured to at least one of the housing and the second co-engaging means and is initially positioned with respect to the second co-engaging means whereby the second co-engaging means is selectively and repeatably latchable with respect to the first co-engaging means.

  • Patent number: 3999604
Abstract: A well casing hanger for suspending a string of tubing from an outer casing landing nipple, with the hanger structure automatically engaging the nipple structure and latched to a locked state withstanding either suspended weight or upward pull in tension. Hanger structure release is provided by rotation of a member operating a threaded coupling on the upper end of the hanger-operating mandrel through providing a recess to accommodate internal lugs of locking keys so they can be cammed inwardly and unlocked with lifting upward movement of the hanger structure from the landing nipple.

  • Patent number: 3980134
Abstract: A device for converting a well packer to a bridge plug for closing off flow along a well bore to isolate adjacent portions of the well bore on opposite sides of the packer, including a tubular sub connectible on the lower end of a well packer and a frangible closure plate supported in sealed relationship in the sub across the bore of the packer for closing off flow through the packer. The frangible plate is installed in the packer at the surface prior to setting the packer in the well bore and thereafter is destroyed without removal of the packer from the well bore to establish communication through the packer. The plate is insulated against vibration, withstands high hydraulic loads from both sides while fragmenting responsive to very low mechanical loads, and expends in small pieces to give a full bore opening without obstruction.

  • Patent number: 3934648
Abstract: A well tubing system for releasably coupling lower tubing strings with upper tubing strings in a well bore without rotation from the surface including a well packer on a plurality of lower tubing strings, a first flow coupling and guide sleeve on the upper end of the packer, and a second flow coupling and guide head on the lower ends of the upper tubing strings. The upper tubing strings and guide head are connected with and disconnected from the guide sleeve on the packer by longitudinal motion only. The guide head has spiral guide surfaces leading to a vertical orienting slot. The guide sleeve includes a guide lug which engages the guide head guide surfaces and slot to rotate the head and upper tubing strings to the desired orientation. In alternate forms of the invention means are provided for the running and retrieving of either one or both of the upper tubing strings independently of the other of the strings after the initial connection of the guide head into the guide sleeve in the well bore.
