  • Patent number: 4789253
Abstract: The rolling contact bearings (12, 13) of an exhaust gas turbocharger shaft (10) are seated in axially displaceable damping bushes (14, 15) and are axially clamped by hydrodynamic forces, these forces increasing with the rotational shaft speed. The forces are produced by lubricating oil flowing in through oil feed holes (29, 30) in a bearing bush (5) into annular ducts (31, 32) between this bearing bush (5) and the damping bushes (14, 15), which takes plase as a result of the banking up of the lubricating oil in the annular ducts (31, 32) in front of the oil feed holes (33, 34) in the damping bushes (14, 15). A part of the lubricating oil passes through oil feed holes (24, 25) in the bearing bush (5) into very narrow annular gaps between the cylindrical circumferential faces of larger bush parts (16, 17) of the damping bushes (14, 15) and holes in the bearing bush (5).

  • Patent number: 4534700
Abstract: In an exhaust-gas turbocharger having an uncooled gas duct, the hot gas casing is connected to the relatively cooler supporting casing by a supporting member resilient in the radial direction. The supporting member consists of an outer flange and an inner flange and of a diaphragm disposed therebetween and comprising at least one fold and two flanks extending predominantly in the axial direction. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the material of the diaphragm flanks is preferably from 5% to 40% higher than that of the hot gas casing.

  • Patent number: 4337951
Abstract: In order to seal a rotating shaft in relation to a stationary housing portion or part a sealing bushing is arranged between both of these parts. The sealing bushing, while forming a sliding fit and being non-rotatable during operation, is arranged in a housing bore of the housing part and forms with a rotor portion or part arranged upon the shaft a contactless labyrinth seal. This sealing bushing bears in axial direction towards a side impinged with lower pressure, by means of a first sealing surface which tends to wear rather markedly during the running-in time of the sliding bushing, against a second sealing surface which is arranged at a rotor part rotatable relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 4298028
Abstract: A starting valve is disclosed having a starter choke valve and a poppet valve which is kept closed by the starter choke valve when the choke valve is in an open position. For mounting the starter choke valve there is provided a choke shaft and a bushing set screw which interact with a plurality of tapered bushes. The arrangement provides for an axial and a radial compression of the bushes to prevent foreign matter from fouling the movement of the choke. Also a compensation for the varying tolerances between the component parts is accomplished by providing a plurality of rubber-elastic components.
