  • Publication number: 20230051247
Abstract: The present invention relates to nanocapsules, nanocapsule substrate mixtures and processes of making and using same. Such nanocapsule substrate mixtures can provide biological articles such as teeth, bones, and tissues as well as nonbiological articles such as ceramics and polymers, with self-healing capabilities and/or antimicrobial properties. Applicants' nanocapsules allow for a high packing density as well as good mechanical and physical properties that provide the desired performance in each desired application.

  • Publication number: 20130089599
Abstract: This invention relates to a method to provide immediate, direct and controlled time release of an effective amount of therapeutics to a wound site for a prolonged period. The pharmaceutical formulation comprising a plurality of nanoparticles, said nanoparticles encapsulating a therapeutically effective amount of one or more antibacterial agents, and an application of the formulation to an implant before surgery provide for extended release of said antibacterial agents.

  • Publication number: 20120003611
Abstract: This invention describes an adhesive used for bonding dental and medical biomaterials to hard tissues via a molecular bridge formed from calcium-reactive amines and acrylic or methacrylic ester monomers to hard tissues such as enamel, dentin, and bone. This formulation consists of an acid-stable polymerizable compound with multi-functional acrylate cross-linkers. This formula provides good self-adherence without prior preparation of the hard tissue substrates. The formulation can contain chemical- and/or light-activated free-radical initiators.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 13, 2011
    Publication date: January 5, 2012
Inventors: James C. Ragain, JR., Amer Tiba, David G. Charlton

  • Patent number: 6709271
Abstract: Dental composite compositions, restorative compositions, and methods for their use are provided. The compositions can contain (a) from about 1 to about 35 weight percent of a monomer portion containing at least one monomer having a functional group capable of undergoing polymerization; (b) from about 75 to about 95 weight percent of a filler portion, the filler portion containing at least a spherical filler portion having at least one spherical filler particle component; and (c) from about 0.01 to about 10 weight percent of a polymerization catalyst portion containing at least one catalyst capable of assisting in the polymerization of the functional group of the monomer portion and hardening of the composite after application of the composite to a tooth surface or other dental surface. The spherical filler portion is present in an amount sufficient to reduce shrinkage of the composite after polymerization to about 1.8 percent or less.
