  • Patent number: 9385810
Abstract: Power management techniques in distributed communication systems are disclosed. Related components, systems, and methods are also disclosed. In embodiments disclosed herein, the power available at a remote unit (RU) is measured and compared to the power requirements of the RU. In an exemplary embodiment, voltage and current is measured for two dummy loads at the RU and these values are used to solve for the output voltage of the power supply and the resistance of the wires. From at these values, a maximum power available may be calculated and compared to power requirements of the RU.

  • Patent number: 9276732
Abstract: Frequency synchronizing a local oscillator in a remote unit in a distributed antenna system (DAS) used for frequency shifting communications signals based on a received digital pulse signal from a central unit. A remote unit receives a frequency shifted downlink communications signal and a reference pulse signal indicative of a frequency of a reference oscillator from a central unit. To recover the original signal, a mixing frequency signal generated by a local oscillator is used. To recover a signal having the same frequency as the original signal, the local oscillator should be the same or substantially the same frequency as the frequency used to create the frequency shifted version. A time difference signal indicating the frequency difference between the oscillators is calculated. A frequency adjustment signal is provided to the local oscillator based on the time difference signal to decrease the frequency difference between the oscillators.

  • Publication number: 20150381289
Abstract: Power distribution modules in distributed antenna systems include fan monitoring circuits for indicating an alarm condition to head-end equipment. The alarm condition can be used by system operator/owners that a fan is drawing excessive power, thereby detracting from system performance, or indicating that the fan may fail. The alarm condition signal can be returned to the head-end equipment via an uplink communication path between a remote unit powered by the module and the head-end equipment.

  • Publication number: 20150131632
Abstract: Distribution of management services in distributed antenna systems having a central unit and remote units configured to time-division multiplex (TDM) downlink and/or uplink management signals into time slots to form a TDM management frame signal. In this manner, collision will not occur between multiple management signals communicated over a common communications medium at the same time in the distributed antenna system. Collision detection and management mechanism can add design complexity, cost by requiring additional components, and require additional area on electronic boards. The TDM management frame signal may also be modulated at a carrier frequency before being combined with RF communications signals so that the combined signals are within a linear range of shared certain communications components to reduce cost and area.

  • Patent number: 9026036
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and system for supporting wireless RF services over a wired digital data network infrastructure, such as an Ethernet network. The system includes a control unit that can be connected to a base station that supports one or more wireless RF services. The control unit converts the wireless RF signals to an intermediate frequency (IF) that does not interfere with the data network signals and combines the IF signals onto the cable run to a remote network device on the digital data network. The remote network device includes a multiplexer or a low pass filter and a high pass filter that separates the IF signals from the digital data signals on the downlink and combines the IF signals with digital data signals on the uplink over the cable run. The IF signals can be input to an RF module connected to the remote network device which converts the IF signals back to the original RF signals for transmission by a transceiver to wireless devices.

  • Publication number: 20140153918
Abstract: Connectivity between components in a system is monitored by applying a low voltage at one end of an RF cable, interpreted as a “0” logical state, and determining whether a similar voltage appears at the other end of the cable. If the cable is connected properly, the DC voltage applied at one end will appear at the other end and a proper indication is generated. If the expected voltage level does not appear at the other side, it means that RF connection was not correctly established and an alert is generated. Test systems for testing connectivity may include a first component comprising at least one port, at least one capacitor, and at least one resistor for providing high impedance. A controller provides a first logic state to the at least one port, scans multiple input ports of the system, and records a link corresponding to the applied first logic state.
