  • Patent number: 10272876
Abstract: A method of operating an ad hoc network to protect a passenger-as-a-pedestrian of a stationary vehicle from a vehicle in motion. The network comprises an electronic key for the stationary vehicle carried by the passenger-as-a-pedestrian, an electronic-control-unit with a car-access-system and an on-board-unit with a vehicle-to-vehicle-system as components of a vehicle-network of the stationary vehicle. The car-access-system interfaces the vehicle-to-vehicle-system through the vehicle-network, the one vehicle in motion comprises a vehicle-to-vehicle-system, the on-board-unit of the stationary vehicle receives information from the car-access-system of the electronic-control-unit of the stationary vehicle, and the on-board-unit communicates based on the received information as vehicle-to-driver communication via the vehicle-to-vehicle system of the stationary vehicle with any vehicle in motion.

  • Patent number: 9731645
Abstract: A cooperative adaptive lighting system for motor vehicles in which a vehicle transmits its geographic coordinates and receives similar coordinates from other vehicles, pedestrians, and stationary warning devices. Using the coordinates, the vehicle computes distances, and relative position more specifically, to those entities. When the distances become sufficiently small, indicating that the entities fall within headlight range, the vehicle alters its headlight beams to either (1) throw more light on an entity, (2) reduce light reaching the entity as appropriate, or (3) change a lighting pattern as appropriate.

  • Publication number: 20170091559
Abstract: A camera monitor system for a vehicle, including a single camera disposed on a rear of the vehicle comprising a field of view (FoV), a processor configured to process image data received by the single camera to obtain an image of a vehicle surrounding, and an output device configured to display the image of the vehicle surrounding. The FoV is a rearview comprising a horizontal FoV angle ranging from 50° to 150.

  • Publication number: 20100246203
Abstract: A system and method for exterior projection lighting of a vehicle include a generally ellipsoidal faceted reflector disposed on a rear side of a projection lens. First and second focal points of each facet define corresponding reflector focal regions. A semi-conducting light source positioned at an acute angle, such as a single light emitting diode (LED) without a primary optic, emits light toward the reflector from within the first reflector focal region. Reflected light passes through the projection lens to illuminate a desired beam pattern. A curved shade disposed between the projection lens and the light source has at least a portion of a top edge disposed within the second reflector focal region. The shade blocks a portion of reflected light from extending below the optical axis.
