  • Patent number: 10272638
Abstract: An underlayment material has a fiber mat partially infused and/or coated with asphalt and coated with silicone coating. A selvedge edge, may be coated or uncoated. The back of the underlayment has a self-adhesive coating, which is protected before use by a siliconized release film. The upper surface of the underlayment is coated with silicone composition providing waterproofing and radiation control. When unsaturated, the selvedge edge of fibrous material establishes a reinforced bond with an overlying sheet. When saturated with asphalt, the bond at the selvedge edge between adjacent sheets is between the asphalt layer of the selvedge edge and the adhesive on the bottom of the adjacent sheet.

  • Patent number: 9758960
Abstract: A radiant barrier has a layer of a flexible polymer, such as TPO, and a layer of metallic aluminum bonded thereto. A reinforcement layer, such as a fiberglass scrim, and a layer of adhesive, such as EVA, may be used to strengthen the barrier and prevent de-lamination. LDPE may be incorporated into the TPO to increase strength. The barrier may also be a moisture barrier. The layers may be laminated by a heated roll set and the aluminum applied by vapor deposition.

  • Publication number: 20100151198
Abstract: A roofing material and process for making same has a granular surface formed from coated granules embedded in an upper layer of modified asphalt. The granules are coated with a coloring composition and with a hydrophobic material. To assure adequate color intensity and a physically strong attachment of the coating on the granule, multiple layers of coloring composition are applied to the granules and are fired at a high temperature for a significant period of time. High reflectivity can be achieved using the coated granules, as well as a high degree of hydrophobicity to aid in shedding water, in particular acidic rainwater to increase roofing membrane performance and useful life.

  • Patent number: 6134856
Abstract: An improved roll roof membrane for use in commercial applications, i.e., flat and low pitch roof structures, and a method for the preparation thereof. The roof membrane comprises a support sheet, and top and bottom layers comprising APP modified bitumen, the top APP modified bitumen layer having a selvage edge disposed along one side of the membrane and the bottom APP modified bitumen layer having a second selvage edge disposed along the opposite side of the membrane. Each of the selvage edges have a series of embossed ridges and valleys adapted to accept adhesives, the valleys extending substantially through the APP modified bitumen layer to the support sheet. The membrane exhibits excellent peel strength with an adhesive, thereby eliminating the need to use a torch during installation in commercial roofing applications.
