Patent number: 7391529Abstract: An apparatus (10) for processing documents each represented by a document description (12) encoded in a page description language supportive of reusable data includes a page description language interpreter (14) that receives the document description (12) and parses the document description (12) into document components. An imager (16), communicating with the interpreter (14), creates image representations of received document components. A reusable document component repository (32) stores image representations derived from a plurality of processed documents. The reusable document component repository (32) communicates with the interpreter (14) and the imager (16) to supply those ones of the image representations corresponding to selected document components of the processed documents and to receive selected image representations created by the imager (16) during the processing of documents.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2003Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Jay A. Glaspy, Jr., Eric S. Barnes, Ammar T. Degani

Patent number: 7142332Abstract: A method and system updates individualized calibrated tone-reproduction curves. A plurality of predetermined stored calibrated tone-reproduction curves are used, each predetermined stored calibrated tone-reproduction curve corresponding to a distinct media type and halftone type combination along with a plurality of predetermined relationships between each stored calibrated tone-reproduction curve and a reference media type and reference halftone type combination. A new tone-reproduction curve corresponding to a reference media type and reference halftone type combination calibration operation is generated, and each predetermined stored calibrated tone-reproduction curves based on the newly generated tone-reproduction curve corresponding to the reference media type and reference halftone type combination and the plurality of predetermined relationships between each stored calibrated tone-reproduction curve and the reference media type and reference halftone type combination is updated.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2000Date of Patent: November 28, 2006Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Ammar T. Degani, Todd R. Henderson

Patent number: 6965462Abstract: A system for compensating for a calibration drift in an image output device includes a user input means for specifying an output medium. An image output device controller converts original image data to final image data used by the image output device. The image output device produces a calibration image, as a function of an output medium, for a plurality of halftone screens capable of being produced by the image output device. A processor communicates with the controller. The processor calculates a plurality of candidate tone reproduction curve sets for the specified output medium. Each of the sets corresponds to one of the plurality of halftone screens. The candidate tone reproduction curve sets are accepted for compensating for a calibration drift in the image output device.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2000Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Todd R. Henderson, Ammar T. Degani, Michael A. Wiegand, Richard J. Eddy

Patent number: 6894805Abstract: A method and system to print selective pages of color images within a print job having a plurality of pages using selected color improvement options such as black overprint, anti-aliasing, and trapping. The system identifies and selects one or more pages within a single print job having a set of a plurality of pages and is able to apply a plurality of different color improvement operations upon printing pages having color images thereon. A user interface enables the assigning of a first color improvement operation to a first subset of pages within the single print job. A processor determines if the page being processed is a member of the first subset of pages that have the first color improvement assigned thereto and performs the first color improvement operation upon the image data associated with the page when it determines that the page being processed is a member of the first subset of pages that have the first color improvement assigned thereto.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 17, 2005Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Ammar T. Degani, Susan Evans, W. Dale Knutsen, Jindong Chen
