  • Publication number: 20240117529
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to a process for producing polymer fibers, typically polyacrylonitrile-based fibers, the properties of which are controlled by certain parameters of the process, such as the amount of jet stretch, the amount of wet stretch, and the amount of hot stretch employed. The present disclosure also relates to a process for producing carbon fiber from such polymer fibers.

  • Patent number: 11955030
Abstract: A wound treatment simulation device and method of operating thereof are disclosed. The device includes a housing, a simulated wound structure, a pump, a power supply, a sensor, a feedback device, and a microprocessor. The housing is configured to be secured to the live subject and to cover at least a portion of a body of the subject. The wound structure is configured to simulate a structure associated with the type of simulated wound treatment. The at least one feedback device is configured to provide a feedback signal to the live subject. The microprocessor is connected to the sensor and the feedback device. The microprocessor is programmed to operate the feedback device to provide haptic feedback based upon input (e.g. force or pressure) generated from interaction between a treatment provider and the simulated wound structure. The disclosed device may be used to simulate a variety of wound care and treatments.

  • Publication number: 20140273276
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for a microfluidic calorimeter apparatus. A microfluidic calorimeter system includes a calorimetry apparatus and a processor in connection with the apparatus. The apparatus includes a microfluidic laminar flow channel connected to two inlets for flowing fluid into the laminar flow channel. Below the laminar flow channel is a plurality of microscale temperature sensors at known positions in the channel. The processor is in connection with the discrete temperature sensors and determines a calorimetry measurement based on local temperatures derived from data output by the microscale temperature sensors and the respective positions of the sensors in the channel.

  • Patent number: 5848184
Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided which determine the geometric and logical structure of a document page from its image. The document image is partitioned into regions (both text and non-text) which are then organized into related "article" groups in the correct reading order. The invention uses image-based features, text-based features, and assumptions based on knowledge of expected layout, to find the correct reading order of the text blocks on a document page. It can handle complex layouts which have multiple configurations of columns on a page and inset material (such as figures and inset text blocks). The apparatus comprises two main components, a geometric page segmentor and a logical page organizer. The geometric page segmentor partitions a binary image of a document page into fundamental units of text or non-text, and produces a list of rectangular blocks, their locations on the page in points (1/72 inch), and the locations of horizontal rule lines on the page.
