  • Patent number: 11769015
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer programming products for alleviating ambiguity amongst the terms and language displayed by the user interface of software products and services. The disclosed solutions catalog terms displayed by the UI of software and services and identify where overlapping terms with the same or substantially similar term names are presented by the UI but have different meanings than the software most familiar to the user. Natural language processing is leveraged to derive meanings of software terms using the context of the surrounding words and text elements within the UI, as well as product documentation, error messages, sentiment and other textual clues. Ambiguity among overlapping terms is alleviated by modifying the UI, highlighting differences in term definitions from the software or services a user is most familiar with using, and updating the UI in a manner that differentiates the overlapping terms displayed by accessed products or services.

  • Publication number: 20220092544
Abstract: In an approach for collaboration space identification using sensory alignment, a processor collects scheduling information and expected device usage from historical log files for a forthcoming time period for a business. A processor determines historical and expected energy consumption from the scheduling information and expected device usage for the forthcoming time period. A processor determines an expected power usage based on the historical and expected energy consumption for the forthcoming time period. A processor monitors net incoming electricity to compare against the expected power usage for the forthcoming time period. A processor determines a level of significance between each location of the business and each application expected to be used in the forthcoming time period. A processor builds a model based on each level of significance determined that determines a probability of whether a respective location is optimal for collaboration.

  • Patent number: 11263281
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically customizing website displays is provided. Upon receiving a request from a user to display a web page, the geographic locations of items described on the web page is determined as well as the geographic location of the user. A relevance of the locations on the web page to the user is determined according to proximity. If the locations are determined to be relevant to the user weather data associated with the locations on the web page and the location of the user is retrieved. Content on the web page related to the weather data is identified, and the standard style sheet for the web page is modified to generate a customized style sheet, wherein weather-related content is displayed more prominently than it would be in the standard style sheet.

  • Publication number: 20200177403
Abstract: Synchronizing collaboration times for members of a team includes extracting emotive content and topical indicia from conversation data generated from multiple electronically captured conversations involving the team members. A model for generating time-based collaboration profiles for each member with respect to a specific topic can be constructed based on the emotive content and topical indicia. A synchronized collaboration time for the members of the team can be determined based on comparisons of each team member's respective collaboration profile.

  • Publication number: 20190303502
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for identifying micro-editing experts within an appropriate network. A version analysis of reference materials is performed to identify different versions of the reference materials from an update history. Collaborative or social reference data for the different versions of the reference materials is analyzed to identify authors and contributors of subject matter contained in the reference materials. Affinity weights are assigned to the authors and contributors of the subject matter contained in the reference materials based on the authors' and contributors' history. The assigned affinity weights are aggregated to generate a cumulative relevance for the authors and contributors, wherein the cumulative relevance is used to infer which of the authors and contributors are the micro-editing experts within the appropriate network for the subject matter contained in the reference materials.

  • Publication number: 20070100939
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for improving attentiveness and participation levels in online collaborative operating environments. The mechanism of the present invention provides ways that participants can maintain their focus on the collaboration meeting by allowing participants to interact with the presentation and other participants, and determine the structure of the presentation as well. A collaboration presentation is provided to a user, wherein the collaboration presentation includes a plurality of activities, such as simple entertainment activities or interactive tasks. When a user selects a desired activity in the plurality of activities, the mechanism of the present invention provides the desired activity to the user, wherein engaging in the desired activity focuses the user on the collaboration presentation.

  • Publication number: 20070100938
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for providing participant-centered orchestration/timing of presentations in collaborative environments. With the mechanism of the present invention, participants in an online collaboration environment are allowed to control the real-time presentation of collaboration materials. The mechanism of the present invention polls the participants in the online presentation. When the polling feedback from the participants is received, the polling feedback from each participant is aggregated to form a collective participant response. The pace and/or content of the presentation is then dynamically modified based on the collective participant response. The dynamically modified presentation is then provided to the participants.

  • Publication number: 20070100986
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for improving interactive online collaboration using user-defined sensory notification or user-defined wakeups in online collaborative operating environments. The mechanism of the present invention employs user-defined wakeup signals, including sensory notification alerts, to alert the meeting participant when a specific event occurs or specific material has been presented in the online meeting. A user defines an event in the collaborative environment. The mechanism of the present invention monitors the collaborative environment to detect the occurrence of the user-defined event. Upon detecting the occurrence of the user-defined event, the mechanism of the present invention sends a sensory notification to the user to alert the user that the user-defined event has occurred and re-direct the user's attention to the online collaboration.

  • Publication number: 20050223343
Abstract: Described is a method for sharing a portion of a sharer display with a viewer display. A sharing area that defines the portion of the sharer display to be shown on the viewer display is determined in response to a display allocation of the viewer display and a cursor position in the sharer display. Display data within the sharing area is provided to a viewing computer for presentation on the viewer display. As changes in the position of the cursor in the sharer display are detected, the sharing area is moved to define a different portion of the sharer display and the viewers are presented with new shared display data. The method optionally includes showing a sharing frame on the sharer display to indicate the perimeter of the portion of the sharer display showing on the viewer display.

  • Publication number: 20050138108
Abstract: A method and system for an awareness service is provided. One or more collaborative contexts can be set for a first user within a set of users using the awareness service. One or more subsets of users can be defined within the set of users corresponding to the one or more collaborative contexts, respectively. Furthermore, a level of availability can be defined for the first user with respect to each of the subset of users. Next, an online status can be published on the awareness service for the first user. The online status can display an availability message to a second user. And, the availability message can have the highest level of availability selected from a group consisting of every level of availability defined for the first user with respect to every subset of users that includes the second user.

  • Publication number: 20050132045
Abstract: Described is a method for adapting an application sharing system for a network of computers according to user specific requirements. The method includes dynamically configuring system components and manually implementing user specific preferences to achieve a better user experience than is possible in typical application sharing systems. Users can configure the application sharing system based on their individual needs, and may need to modify their settings based on changing operating environments or usage patterns. The application sharing system can be dynamically configured based on content, current tasks, and changes in network conditions. System administrators can configure the application sharing system according to their general needs without preempting the needs of an individual user.

  • Publication number: 20050091579
Abstract: The present invention is a system, method and apparatus for converting a slide show presentation for use within a non-presentation application such as a Web conferencing or virtual classroom application. In accordance with the present invention, a slide show presentation in its native format can be processed to extract slide title information for each slide in the slide show presentation. Additionally, important text within slide further can be extracted. Each slide in the slide-show can be converted to a raster image and disposed within markup. The markup can be annotated with the important text and both the markup and the slide title can be provided to the non-presentation application for use in concert with the non-presentation application. In this way, the context of each slide can be preserved for use within the non-presentation application as can an image of each slide itself.
