  • Publication number: 20140056438
Abstract: A vehicle sound synthesis system may be configured to generate a vehicle sound signal tuned to an ambient condition in an area external to a vehicle. The system may detect the ambient condition, such as a weather condition, a time condition, a traffic condition, a location condition, or an ambient sound condition. The system may synthesize the vehicle sound signal, and set an acoustical parameter of the vehicle sound signal based on the ambient condition. The acoustical parameter may include a frequency, an amplitude, a phase, modulation, or a time delay. The vehicle sound signal may be indicative of operation of the vehicle. The system may drive a sound generation device to produce sound waves corresponding to the synthesized vehicle sound signal and audible in a variety of ambient conditions to alert pedestrians and/or occupants of other vehicles to the presence of the vehicle generating the sound.

  • Publication number: 20130339537
Abstract: A network communication system includes one or more talkers that may communicate data streams to one or more listeners over a network, such as an Ethernet Audio/Video Bridging network. Before transmitting a new data stream, a talker may request a reservation for bandwidth through a controller that is configured to manage and/or control the flow of data streams over the network. If there is not enough bandwidth, then the controller may determine whether any existing data streams may be transmitted at lower bandwidths to make available enough bandwidth for the new data stream. Alternatively, the controller may determine whether any existing data streams having lower priorities than the new data stream may be terminated to make available enough bandwidth for the new data stream.

  • Publication number: 20120031453
Abstract: A system and method to control a thermoelectric device using a microcontroller is provided. The system and method include a temperature sensor operatively coupled to a microcontroller that has a central processing unit, at least one memory device, and a module for generating at least one pulse width modulation signal. The at least one pulse width modulation signal generated by the microcontroller has “ON” and “OFF” states to drive the thermoelectric device.

  • Publication number: 20090292609
Abstract: A method and system for displaying advertisement listings in a sponsored search environment is provided. The method and system may include generating an advertisement list in response to receiving a search request for a search term, where advertisements in the advertisement list are associated with the search term; defining a region of a display screen for displaying the advertisement list; and communicating web page instructions to a browser for scrolling the advertisement listings through the region, where only a subset of the advertisements listings are displayed at any given time. The advertisements in the advertisement list may be scrolled from top to bottom or visa versa, and left to right or visa versa. The method and system may also include providing a scroll control that enables controlling which advertisements in the advertisement list are displayed in the scrolling region.

  • Patent number: 5752218
Abstract: Location of an object to be tracked is determined by measuring, at a receiver situated at the object, the propagation time differences between the signals from a plurality of GPS satellites, each of which is received by the receiver situated at the object. The measured propagation time difference values are transmitted to a central station where the location of the object to be tracked is calculated based upon the propagation time differences of the signals transmitted from the satellites and data derived from a receiver apart from the object but also receiving signals from the satellites.

  • Patent number: 5682139
Abstract: A method of tracking railcars in transit using global positioning techniques involves determining the location of a railcar by using a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and a satellite transceiver on board the locomotive, and a local area network of railcar tracking units. Instead of computing the GPS solution independently and transmitting it to a central station, the railcar tracking units transmit their unique identifications (IDs) to one of the tracking units in the local area network acting as an administrator tracking unit. The administrator tracking unit maintains a list of IDs and periodically transmits the list of IDs to the locomotive. The locomotive locates itself using the GPS system and periodically transmits its position and velocity to the central station.
