Abstract: An operating system (10) for operating an article of furniture (12), the article of furniture (12) comprising a support structure, at least one component displaceably arranged relative to the support structure and a receiver. The operating system (10) includes a (controller 34) which communicates wirelessly with the article of furniture (12), the controller (34) outputting operating signals (46) containing operating instructions. A signal processing module communicates with the wireless controller (34) via a routing arrangement (48), the signal processing module receiving the operating signals (46) and converting the operating signals into control signals to be provided to the receiver to effect displacement of the at least one component of the article of furniture (12) relative to the support structure under the control of a user.

Abstract: An article of furniture (10) includes a platform (12). A seat base (14) is mounted to the platform (12) to leave at least a part (16) of the platform (12) not covered by the seat base (14). At least one rest (20) is displaceably mounted relative to the platform (12) to enable access to be gained at least to that part (16) of the platform (12) not covered by the seat base (14). An attaching mechanism (22) is carried by the part (16) of the platform (12) for displaceably attaching the at least one rest (20) to the platform (12).

Abstract: A rest component (14), (16) for an article of furniture (10) includes a body member (32) defining a plurality of surfaces (34). A cover member (36) is carried by at least one surface (34) of the body member (32) to define a pocket (38) associated with the at least one surface (34), the pocket (38) defining a mouth to enable a user to gain access to an interior of the pocket (38). At least one passage (24) is defined by at least one of the body member (32) and the cover member (36) and opening out into the pocket (38). The passage (24) is configured to accommodate an elongate element which extends through the passage to exit from an operatively bottom region of the body member.
