Abstract: An alert signal of a communication device (1), such as the ring signal of a mobile phone, comprises a set of musical samples that are played by the communication device in sequence. The sequence may be randomly generated, either in response to the event causing the alert or in a set up phase. Alternatively, the user of the device can create a tune to be used as the alert signal by creating a sequence of samples. The user selects samples from a list of samples to create the sequence of samples as individual samples may appear more than once in the tune.

Abstract: An improved liquid crystal display (LCD) system that includes a user-selectable method for reducing the amount of electrical power consumed by the LCD. When a power-conservation mode is selected, power-conservation circuitry acts upon the pixel activation sequence as normally determined by the LCD driver. To minimize power consumption, a subset of the pixels otherwise to be activated are sent no power. The subset of no-power pixels may be a fixed percentage, such as fifty percent, or may vary according to the image being displayed. In either case, the pixel elements of the no-power subset may be alternated so as to minimize the impact of the power-conservation feature on the displayed image.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for a mobile station operable in a radio communication system. Improved convenience of use of the mobile station in the performance of net-searching operations is provided. A search query entered at the mobile station is selectably stored at a memory located at the mobile station. If the same search query is to be reused for a subsequent search, a search query is retrieved from the memory and reused, thereby obviating the need of the user of the mobile station to reenter the entire search query.

A user interface is provided that permits a replacement of text to be made if a defined term is detected, followed by further replacements of text if any defined terms are found within the first replacement text. Replacement of text may also be staged, such that a first part of a replacement may be made, suspending the replacement until a condition is met. A user may fulfill the condition by entering in a string including a delimiter, whereupon a second part of the replacement is completed.
