  • Patent number: 8934936
Abstract: The present invention provides a user equipment for a telecommunications system, the telecommunications system comprising at least a first radio basestation. The user equipment comprises means for controlling a transmission power of the user equipment, such that said transmission power has a first value for a first set of one or more signals sent over a physical channel between the user equipment and the first radio basestation. The first value and said second value are different. In alternative embodiments, the second set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell and a neighboring cell, while the first set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell only.

  • Publication number: 20140307667
Abstract: In one aspect of the disclosed teachings, associating a plurality of contention-based uplink grants with a range of uplink resource blocks allows one contention-based uplink grant message to signal the entire plurality of grants. As an example in the LTE context, the signaling load on the PDCCH is reduced by using a single contention-based uplink grant message to signal a plurality of contention-based uplink grants. The message indicates an allocated set of uplink resource blocks and the number of separate uplink resource grants represented by the set is known or signaled, such that user terminals recognize that separate subsets of uplink resource blocks within the set each correspond to a separate contention-based uplink grant. Information included in the contention-based uplink grant message, or otherwise signaled can be used to control the probability at which the user terminals attempt contention-based uplink transmissions and/or to control the MCS used for such transmissions.

  • Patent number: 8730924
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for sending reserved sub-carriers to a UE for the purpose of reducing peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal to ensure sufficient quality of the modulated signal to achieve high data rate, including the steps of sending the information related to dynamic activation and deactivation of reserved sub-carriers on a common channel, which is readable for all UEs in idle and in connected mode; dynamically activating the transmission of the reserved sub-carriers in a cell when high modulation quality is to be maintained; dynamically deactivating the transmission of the reserved sub-carriers in a cell when high modulation quality is not required. The invention furthermore relates to a radio base station and a UE relating to said method.

  • Publication number: 20140128120
Abstract: A transmit power control (TPC) method and a user equipment (UE) of a telecommunications network utilizing the TPC method. The UE receives TPC commands intended for traffic and control channels. The TPC commands are separately identified by logical or physical resources associated with the channels. When the traffic and control channel TPCs occupy the same resources, the UE applies common power control commands to the traffic and control channels. When the traffic and control channel TPCs occupy different resources, the UE applies separate power control commands to the traffic and control channels.

  • Publication number: 20140099989
Abstract: Transmit power control methods and apparatus are disclosed. In several embodiments, a mobile terminal is configured to effectively ignore “UP” transmit power control commands in the event that the mobile terminal is operating in a power-limited state. In an exemplary method for controlling transmit power at a mobile terminal, a plurality of transmit power control commands are received. An accumulated power control value is adjusted in response to each transmit power control command that directs a negative adjustment in transmit power. However, the accumulated power control value is adjusted in response to a transmit power control command that directs a positive adjustment in transmit power only if the mobile terminal is not in a power-limited state. Transmit power settings for each transmission are calculated based on the accumulated power control value and the one or more radio link parameters.

  • Publication number: 20140086203
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method in a network node is provided. The network node is configured to use a first power level for transmitting data in subframes of a first type, and to use a second power level for transmitting data in subframes of a second type. The method comprises signaling (520) first and second information to a network entity. From the first information, a power offset for subframes of the first type is derivable. The first power offset represents a relation between a power level for transmitting reference signals and the first power level. From the second information, a power offset for subframes of the second type is derivable. The second power offset represents a relation between the power level for transmitting reference signals, and the second power level.

  • Patent number: 8606288
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for radio base stations of a wireless communication network, enabling each radio base station to transmit parameters indicating imbalance between UL and DL to adjacent radio base stations, when it is triggered to do so. The adjacent radio base stations can then use the parameters for radio resource management decisions such as HO decisions, whenever needed.

  • Patent number: 8594581
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a wireless station for initiating radio resource measurements. A wireless station identifies a need for radio resource measurements by a second wireless station despite there is no association between the wireless station and the second wireless station allowing direct radio communication between said stations. The wireless station initiates a request for radio resource measurements by the second wireless station.

  • Patent number: 8509204
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of sending control information from a first node to a second node in a communications system providing a plurality of resource units for the transmission of data. The control information is sent by use of a code book comprising at least one code word identifying control information relating to data transmission over a resource unit. The code book is dynamically updated by means of repeatedly transmitting an updated version of code book information from the first node to the second node. The invention also relates to a first communications node comprising means for transmitting control information to a second node. The means for transmitting control information is adapted to transmitting the control information by use of a code book; and to repeatedly transmitting an updated version of code book information in order to achieve that the code book is dynamic.

  • Patent number: 8457062
Abstract: A method performed in a wireless network includes receiving signals within a downlink frequency domain to enable channel estimation and measuring two or more signals only for two or more frequency bands of the downlink frequency domain that correspond to two or more uplink frequency bands associated with a scheduling grant or channel allocation that correspond to physical uplink channel frequency bands. The method also includes calculating path loss values for each of the frequency bands and calculating a total power based on the path loss values corresponding to the frequency bands. The method further includes determining a power allocation per frequency band based on the calculated total power to be applied to an uplink transmission and allocating the total power.

  • Publication number: 20130094388
Abstract: A method and an arrangement in a first radio network node for determining a channel quality offset for a radio channel for sending data from the first radio network node to a user equipment are provided. The first radio network node receives from the user equipment channel quality information for the radio channel. The first radio network node estimates resource utilization and signal-to-noise-ratio for the user equipment. The first radio network node determines the channel quality offset based on the received channel quality information, the estimated resource utilization and the estimated signal-to-noise-ratio.

  • Patent number: 8396141
Abstract: Systems and methods of cell selection are based on measures of frequency selectivity, time selectivity, and/or antenna selectivity. For example, the delay spread and coherence bandwidth of a channel are two measures of frequency selectivity that can be taken into account in the cell selection process. In addition to or instead of either delay spread or coherence bandwidth, Doppler frequency shift or coherence time (which are two measures of time selectivity) and/or antenna correlation or mean signal strength per antenna (which are two measures of antenna selectivity), among other parameters, can be determined and taken into account.

  • Patent number: 8396480
Abstract: In a multi-access system, an access selection principle is achieved by selecting a signal strength threshold level based on a determined load level (ULOCAL) in a first access network. A new user in an area commonly covered by more than one access network attempts to allocate to the first access network if an experienced signal strength exceeds the signal strength threshold level. Communication utility can preferably be maximised or at least be taken into account by using suitable load level dependencies. By increasing the threshold when the load level approaches the capacity limit, a completely filled first access network is avoided. This gives an opportunity to let particularly well-suited users still have access to the first access network. At the same time, since the preferred access is decided before the actual access attempt, control signalling can be significantly reduced, even at very high traffic loads.
