  • Publication number: 20160309266
Abstract: A hearing aid device configured to be partly or fully inserted into the ear canal of a user is disclosed. The hearing aid device comprises a receiver (loudspeaker) adapted to generate and send an air-borne acoustic signal towards the eardrum when the hearing aid device is partly or fully inserted into the ear canal. The hearing aid device further comprises a microphone configured to receive acoustic signals. The hearing aid device comprises a processing unit configured to determine if the hearing aid device is positioned in a correct position in the ear canal on the basis of the acoustic signals received by the microphone.

  • Publication number: 20160142838
Abstract: The application relates to a method of fitting a hearing device to a user, the method comprising a) Defining a user as a first time user; b) Selecting a processing algorithm to have special first time user settings; c) Defining prescribed settings for the user; d) Defining special first time user settings for said processing algorithm; e) Defining a scheme for adapting said special first time user settings to said prescribed settings over time. The application further relates to a method of a fitting system and to a hearing device. The object of the present application is to provide an alternative fitting scheme for a first time user of a hearing device. The method further provides that the processing algorithm to have special first time user settings is selected from the group comprising noise reduction algorithms, directionality algorithms, binaural compression algorithms, and a combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 9307332
Abstract: A listening instrument includes a) a microphone unit for picking up an input sound from the current acoustic environment of the user and converting it to an electric microphone signal; b) a microphone gain unit for applying a specific microphone gain to the microphone signal and providing a modified microphone signal; c) a direct electric input signal representing an audio signal; d) a direct gain unit for applying a specific direct gain to the direct electric input signal and providing a modified direct electric input signal; e) a detector unit for classifying the current acoustic environment and providing one or more classification parameters; f) a control unit for controlling the specific microphone gain applied to the electric microphone signal and/or the specific direct gain applied to the direct electric input signal based on the one or more classification parameters.

  • Patent number: 9014406
Abstract: Level compression applied to the acoustic signals (18) received by a binaural hearing aid system (1) counteracts the preservation of inter-aural level differences (ILD) and thereby reduces the user's ability to locate the sound source and consequently his or her ability to understand speech in noisy environments. It is therefore known to increase the gain (57) in the hearing aid (2) receiving the louder signal and/or decreasing the gain (58) in the hearing aid (3) receiving the quieter signal, which at least in part allows for preserving the ILDs. However, in some situations this instead reduces the user's ability to understand speech, e.g. when acoustic noise is received at one ear (4) at a higher level (53, 54) than simultaneous speech at the other ear (5).

  • Patent number: 8526624
Abstract: A hearing aid includes an audio signal input device, a signal processor and a signal output device which presents a processed audio signal perceivable as sound to an ear of a user. The signal processor includes fast acting level estimators and slow acting level estimators. A communication link between two hearing aids at each ear of a user allows the transmission between the two hearing aids of level estimates from the slow acting level estimators.

  • Patent number: 8165328
Abstract: A hearing aid is provided which comprise an audio signal input device (11), a signal processor (12) a signal output device (13) which presents a processed audio signal perceivable as sound to an ear of a user, where the signal processor comprises fast acting level estimators (8) and slow acting level estimators (8). According to the invention the fast acting level estimators has attack time constants around 10 ms, and release time constants in the range from 25 ms to 250 ms, and are implemented in a number of frequency bands not exceeding 8 bands and preferably 4 frequency bands, the slow acting level estimators (7) have attack time constants around 10 ms, and release time constants which are 4 to 5 times the release time constants of the fast acting level estimators (8), and are implemented in a number of frequency bands comprising no less than 10 bands and preferably 16 frequency bands.
