  • Patent number: 6438443
Abstract: A method of presetting the roll nip profile of a roll stand for rolling a rolled strip is provided. The roll nip profile is influenced by output values for the roll nip profile and the tensile stress distribution being set over the roll nip profile. The output values for the roll nip profile is determined by using a roll nip profile model which calculates the roll nip profile. The calculated roll nip profile or an equivalent quantity is linked to a correction value, in particular by addition or multiplication, to form a corrected calculated roll nip profile, so that the roll nip profile model is adapted to the actual roll nip profile of the roll stand by using the correction value.

  • Patent number: 6357301
Abstract: A method of measuring the tensile stress distribution in a metal strip between two roll stands, between a roll stand and a coiler, within a blooming stand, or upstream or downstream from a deflection roller, with the metal strip being deflected and the deflection of the metal strip being measured by two or more sensors arranged across the width of the metal strip. The tensile stress distribution in the metal strip is calculated as a function of the deflection of the metal strip. A correction is performed on the measured values of sensors in the edge area of the metal strip whose measurement area is not covered completely by the metal.

  • Patent number: 6289750
Abstract: A method for measuring the tensile stress distribution over the width of the metal strip is provided. In order to measure the tensile stress in a metal strip between two roll stands or between a roll stand and a coiler or a guide roll, a force is exerted on the metal strip using a suction device and effecting a deflection of the metal strip. The deflection of the metal strip is measured and used for calculating the tensile stress distribution over the width of the metal strip.

  • Patent number: 6098060
Abstract: For controlling a process, manipulated variables for a plurality of actuators that act on the process are calculated in a control device from measured values for output quantities of the process. To optimize the control of the process by control device (7), the actuator efficiencies (w.sub.11, . . . w.sub.nm) that describe the dependence of the changes in the output quantities (dy.sub.1, . . . , dy.sub.m) on the changes in the manipulated variables (du.sub.1, . . . , du.sub.n) for each actuator are learned in a neural network (10) and sent to the control device (7) to improve the calculation of the manipulated variables (u.sub.1, . . . , u.sub.

  • Patent number: 5647237
Abstract: In a previous process, the influence of roll eccentricities on the output thickness of the rolled material in a roll stand is suppressed by simulating the output signal of an oscillator and supplying this value to a position or thickness control for the roll stand, where the frequency of the output signal is set according to the roll rotation speed. In the process according to the invention, the amplitude and phase of the output signal are set so that the exit thickness of the rolled material is measured with a measuring delay in relation to the thickness reduction in the roll gap. A difference signal is generated from the delayed roll screw-down signal and a measured thickness signal multiplied by the sum of one and the quotient of the rigidity of the rolled material and the roll stand. The output signal of the oscillator is corrected according to the difference between the output signal and the difference signal. The output signal is phase shifted by the amount of measurement delay for a forward slip.

  • Patent number: 5353217
Abstract: In a control system, especially a hydraulic screw-down control system for a roll stand, the controller output is acted upon by a pilot control value (v.sub.1.sup.*). At the same time, a reference value (x.sub.M ') is delivered to the controller via a subtractor as a setpoint value. The reference value (x.sub.m ') is determined in a model control loop based on the pilot controller. Parasitic response characteristics of the overall system are largely accounted for in the model control loop, so that on a time-averaged basis the controller is not activated.
