    Abstract: Extrusion die assembly and method of insulating conductor in which tensile reinforcing elements are introduced into the conductor insulation as it is being extruded. During extrusion, the reinforcing element engage outwardly against a position control member to limit their outward movement. The extrudate flows to either side of the position control member and recombines into a single unitary mass downstream of the control member.

  • Forming cable core units

    Abstract: Making a cable core unit in which pairs of twisted conductors are formed upon individual twisting machines, the twisted conductor pairs then fed `in-line` to a core forming device by passing the pairs through a tension reducing means which reduces tension in each pair while allowing the lengths of the pairs to be different from pair-to-pair as they move into the core forming device. Built-in tensions and twisted core units are thus avoided. Also provided is a tension equalizing device which averages out the tensions between conductor pairs.

    Abstract: Cradle for a twisting machine with a reel spindle and friction engaging means to engage a reel mounted upon the spindle. The friction engaging means faces the free end of the spindle and is movable axially away from the free end against a resilient means. A means is provided to urge the reel against the engaging means. In a practical structure, the friction engaging means is annular.

    Abstract: Twisting machine with a guide pulley for filamentary material and which is rotatable about its own axis and about a second axis causing air to impinge on one of the pulley sides. Impeller surfaces extend inwardly from the pulley rim to axis in rotating the pulley because of air impingement. Conveniently, the impeller surfaces are formed on spokes of the pulley.

    Abstract: Cradle for a twisting machine with a brake for a reel spindle comprising a brake drum and first and second brake shoes operable in succession. The in succession operation is achieved with a brake release link which pivots about either of two relatively offset axes. A component of load is placed upon the release link initially in one direction to cause it to pivot around one of the axes and operate the first brake shoe. Pivoting then takes place around the other axis to operate the second brake shoe.

A fluidizable bed structure is also described having a support which has an electrode contacting it with the depth of the support from its upper surface to the electrode sufficient to prevent arcing from the electrode to the upper surface.
