    Abstract: An imbricated roll planisher comprising, inside a fixed stand, two planishing systems each including a plurality of live planishing rolls with parallel axes, rotatably mounted in a supporting chassis and each associated with at least one row of support rollers, the assembly being pressed, on the side remote from the strip to be planished, against a resistant bearing beam. At least one of the planishing systems bears against the corresponding bearing beam via a set of hydraulic jacks distributed across the entire surface covered by the system, in parallel rows of at least two jacks, each row corresponding to one of the live planishing rolls. By individually adjusting the position and the pressure of the jacks of each of the rows, it becomes possible to determine the degree of imbrication and the distribution of the force applied on each of the live rolls, it being possible to make this adjustment even while the strip is feeding through.

    Abstract: Installation for planishing a metal strip moving in a longitudinal feed direction, comprising a fixed supporting stand having two vertical members, lower and upper resistant bearing beams and lower and upper planishing roll systems each comprising a row of parallel live rolls that bears upon a support chassis via at least one row of bearing rolls. At least one of the planishing systems bears upon the corresponding bearing beam via a set of adjustable actuators interposed between the chassis of the system and the resistant bearing beam, the actuators being distributed across the entire surface covered by the system. The system is associated with a device for individually adjusting the position of the bearing end of each actuator in relation to the bearing beam in order to adjust and maintain the position of the chassis and live rolls in relation to the corresponding rolls of the other system for the adjustment of the imbrication of the rolls.

    Abstract: A device for adjusting the profile of a roll with a deformable wall (1) mounted rotatably about a central shaft (2). Blocks (3) are aligned along the axis between a bearing face (21) of the shaft (2) and the cylindrical inner face (12), and hydraulic thrust jacks (4) are arranged between the face (21) and a bearing face (32) of the blocks (3) at the opposite, for adjusting the radial position of each block (3). The axial and transverse dimensions of each block (3) are different, and its plane and rectangular bearing face (32) works together with a single hydraulic jack (41) having an oblong working cross-section covering the greater part of the face (32). The invention applies especially to rolling-mill cylinders.

    Abstract: Apparatus for detecting faults in inherent flatness in a moving stretched strip, comprising a deflector roll in the form of a cylinder covered by a thin casing. Cavities are machined in the cylinder and arranged on a helix traced on the roll. Each cavity contains a displacement detector whose moving part in contact with the inner surface of the thin casing moves in the radial direction of the roll under the action of the stresses exerted by the sheet. The detectors have a primary winding and a secondary winding through which passes a core, solid with the moving part of the detector. The apparatus includes an optical encoding system for marking the angular position of the roll and a programming apparatus for sending a pulse of current to the primary windings of the detectors once under load and once not under load. A collector and processor for the emitted signals allow calculation of the values proportional to the tension in the strip, along its width.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to a process for the regulation of the thickness of a flat product such as a strip, sheet or plate, being rolled in a hot tandem rolling mill, and the corresponding regulation device for carrying out the process. Regarding each stand of the rolling mill on which the adjustment is being performed, a constant rolling pressure is maintained, the gap is measured, the deviation between the measured gap and a set value corresponding to a desired thickness of the product is determined, and the necessary correction of the value of the tensile force applied on the product between the stand under consideration and the upstream stand in order to bring the gap back to its set value is determined. Finally, this correction of the tensile force between the stand under consideration and the upstream stand is performed.

    Abstract: A universal cassette type stand for a continuous rolling line which can be converted from a universal beam stand having two horizontal rolls and two vertical rolls into a stand having two horizontal rolls for rolling structural shapes. Each horizontal and vertical roll includes two hydraulic tightening jacks each associated with a different chock. Each jack is provided with a servo-valve, a position sensor, and a pressure probe. The supply of each jack is servo-controlled by a regulation loop where the measurement of the tightening is transformed into a position reference depending on the modulus of either the lower or upper part or sides of the stand. The regulation or control loop is such that one of several alternatives for rolling the beam to a desired mode can be accomplished.
