    Abstract: A method for controlling a sawing machine with a sawing tool, which is driven by an electrical sawing tool drive with a first frequency converter, and with a sawing feed device for moving the driven sawing tool at a feed rate in relation to a workpiece to be sawn, and also to such a sawing machine. The feed rate is changed over from an idling feed rate to a working feed rate when the sawing tool engages in the workpiece. A value of a physical variable which corresponds to the torque transferred from the sawing tool drive to the sawing tool or from which a change in this torque can be calculated is determined here at the first frequency converter. The changeover from the idling feed rate to the working feed rate takes place in dependence on the value of this physical variable.

The method includes: controlling the clamping jaws (8) via the machine controller (12) to clamp a workpiece placed on the sawing bench (2); inputting an offset value into the machine controller (12); advancing or retracting the clamping jaws (8) in order to move the workpiece into a zero position using the offset value, opening the clamping jaws (8), moving the clamping jaws (8) to an initial position, re-clamping the workpiece located in the zero position, the clamping jaws (8) being in their initial position, and moving the clamped workpiece from the zero position into a cutting position by way of a feeding movement, the cutting position being a position in which that point of the workpiece is located in the cutting plane (7).

    Abstract: A sawing machine having a sawing bench and clamping jaws, which are movable back and forth, for positioning workpieces, and an upper saw part generates a sawing feeding movement extending in a cutting plane and carries a sawing tool. A machine controller controls movement sequences and the clamping jaws to clamp the workpiece in a zero position with a front end side of the workpiece located in the cutting plane, and moves the clamped workpiece from the zero position into a cutting position. The machine controller clamps the workpiece in the clamping jaws and then waits for an offset value input which corresponds to the distance of the front end side of the workpiece from the zero position. Then, it moves the workpiece into the zero position by advancing or retracting the clamping jaws, taking into consideration the offset value, re-clamping it and moving it into the cutting position by way of a feeding movement.
